HBO was so impressed with the trio that appeared on the recent "Night of The Rising Stars," that a second appearance for all three, Alfredo Angulo, James Kirkland and Yuriorkis Gamboa, is being discussed with their promoter, Gary Shaw. Reports that a date of October 11 is being thrown around for the show. The two of the three bouts could get very interesting. The fighters will be matched even tougher for their second stint on HBO. Former champion Jorge Barrios 47-3, 34KOs) is being discussed for Gamboa (10-0, 8KOs), the fighter with the most hype of the three. Gamboa will see action again on June 27 against Jose Rojas in Florida. Barrios has not been most active fighter in the last two-years, battling injuries and postponements that were beyong his control. Barrios may also go forward with a previously planned bout with Rocky Juarez It doesn't get any easier, Kim notes that Joel Julio (33-1, 30KOs) is one of the names being looked at for Kirkland (22-0, 19KOs). Julio has won six in a row since the sole loss to Carlos Quintana in 2006, with four of the wins coming by knockout. In some of those wins, Julio appeared to struggle at times. Kirkland can punch with either hand and has shown explosive power. A fight with Julio will be a step up in the right direction. I don't care what you think of Gamboa, his fearlessness/lack of respect toward the ability of his opposition is impressive. :hi:
Barrios can punch. If he keeps his hands low like he did againgst Jimenez, Barrios can take him out. Other than that, Gamboa is a better boxer.
I think Kirkland will be the first to lose out of the three ... especially when he takes his major step up in class. He seems to one dimensional and lacks good boxing skill.
Totally agree. Kirkland, more than any other highly regarded prospect in boxing, is a knockout waiting to happen. Just my opinion.....
If Gamboa fight Barrios he runs the chance of getting KO'd ... I know that Gamoba has the edge on speed, but if he gets cocky and fights with his hands down he may leave an opening for the hard hitting Barrios. I think anyone that has reached the championship level can give Gamboa a run for his money. I'm not impressed with this guy ... and he's a KO loss in waiting.
1 question, and I am not calling you a hater in anyway....but...why the **** do you or anyone else CARE if he fights with his hands down and "is a KO waiting to happen"....What are you guys deliberately waiting/hoping for Gamboa to get KO'd.. As a fan of the very diverse stylistic sport of BOXING I LOVE this guy, his whole style is exciting the fact that he doesn't give no one respect and his defensive style is incredibly risky, yet he throws a zillion punches with crazy speed. Maybe you may not feel this way, but as for others...atsch
Yep I agree. If a guy can make it through his early onslaught (which is pretty mean) then he will lose by ko imo
Barrios is too much too soon for Gamboa, I know the guy is pure talent and has 400 amatuer fights but seriously, he's never been in with anyone like that before. Very risky fight.
