To be honest I wouldn't be so sure about povetkin vs Joshua/wilder NOW but the povetkin from 2/3 years ago would have them out for sure!
Meldonium was legal for 5 decades. Athletes have been taking them and still been having stamina problems for a long time. Povetkin always had good stamina. Even if he appears to be breathing hard. Not saying I would've favored him to beat Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua at any point. But you're spreading plenty of myths that I thought I'd point out. Meldonium does virtually nothing for one's stamina.
Povetkin knocked out France's Johann Duhaupas in six rounds in Russia. Povetkin was originally scheduled to meet Bermane Stiverne for the interim WBC heavyweight title but Stiverne withdrew after Povetkin's A-sample, from a December 6th drug test, returned positive for Ostarine, a banned substance. The test result came back only hours before the event was planned to start. Ostarine is a SARM substance, which athletes use during training. It builds up endurance, like anabolic steroids. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) put SARM substances on its prohibited items list in 2008.
1 picogram of Ostarine can't even enhance a fly, never mind a human. It's as small as an ant, compared to 10 Earth sized planets. No athlete has ever been fined or penalized for 1 picogram of any PED. NEVER! Yes, Povetkin maybe past his best and I hope he avoids Joshua for his own good.
Meldonium is popular amongst Russian athletes, no one had heard of it before Sharapova got caught out. And it was only available on prescription in the Baltic countries so the reason it wasn't on the ban list was because the authorities didn't know about it.
Yes, because he cycles and you'll find a miniscule amount when testing comes around. Ostarine didn't magically get into Povetkin's protein shake.
There isn't any evidence Meldonium is any more of a performance enhancer than caffeine or any other legal supplement. Pretty much every boxer is on something, whether it is a legal or an illegal PED.
It increases blood flow and increases oxygen. Those effects are assumed to have performance enhancing qualities, including increasing stamina, endurance and recovery times. There isn't absolute proof that most drugs on the banned list enhance performance, because to do that you'd have to do clinical trials, with thousands of participants taking part over several years, so it would be prohibitively expensive to do that for every single drug. You're in complete denial. Povetkin is a cheat. Plain and simple.
Yeah, the matchup definitely looks in Joshuas favour after the Price fight. I mean Parker looks like a better version of Povetkin anyways.
I'd like to see fights between any combination of Povetkin, Parker, Whyte and Ortiz. These are good competitive match ups. Wilder and Joshua are just a level above these guys.
It's a very good time for Povetkin to retire now. Well, if they somehow get AJ to fight him, that would be great for Povetkin financially, but, as a boxer, he's plateaued, he's getting old and he doesn't stand much of a chance against current champions.
Meldonium is no secret whatsoever: "In fact, the drug’s manufacturer, Grindeks, predicts that the pills could see its sales double in Russia in March, as compared to February, the publication reported. It’s a cheap over-the-counter pill that retails for just about $4 for a pack of 40. “ http://fortune.com/2016/03/14/meldonium-drug-sales/ You want some? You can even order it over the internet: http://discount-tabs.com/ ... of course, whether you gat meldonium or whether you get calcium tablets is another matter.
You can buy anything on the internet, not sure what your point is, but the point I think I was making was no one had heard of it in the west before Sharapova, apart from the authorities who'd only known about it for a short time, as it was only available on prescription in the Baltic countries, and had never been approved in western countries, so it just wasn't on the radar. And the claims that increasing bloodflow and oxygen to the body doesn't enhance performance are also spurious.
