I don't think his 'amateur' career should be exaggerated. He spent his time in gyms as did Mundine.

"I remember Carmen called me and said, 'Look, I've got this kid coming out of prison. His name is Bernard Hopkins and he's about 177 pounds,' " Katz said. "Carmen says to me, 'He's a very raw guy and he doesn't have much of an amateur background. Let's throw him in and see what he's got. I've heard good things about him in the gym. He's a strong kid and he's got some skills. Maybe we've got something here, let's give him a look.' I said, 'Perfect.' "

How could we forget Mundine's pro boxing career started at 25 yrs of age. He's been blowing his own trumpet about it for the best part of a decade.
IMO the Kessler fight was a turning point for Mundine. He realised he couldn't mix it with the big boys in A grade & settled for a career in reserve grade where he wouldn't have to get out of his comfort zone. [ and made heaps of bucks from the suckers in the process]

The Hype and the Bull**** has been a bit too hard to cop.
Unified champ , best pound for pound . What a joke.

He was around the gym sparring from a very early age plus with the genetic talents handed down from Dad, gave him a head start I guess, he wasn't a Hoppa-type that didn't have the grounding. He also had around half a dozen ams

Yeah but I am not wrong am I and that's the sad thing for you (almost as sad but not quite as sad as your lot's record of qualifying for the FIFA world cup and that Welsh male specimens are so pathetic and inept that their sexiest ever bird was reduced to marrying a saggy faced, drooping American septuagenarian :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl)

I reckon that contact lens incident effed it all up. Maybe his vision still isn't quite up to scratch and he knows he won't be able to cut it at the very top because of it.
