Is Tyson speaking from a quitters perspective? Takes one to know one.

Cotto against Margarito but maybe he felt those gloves where a little to heavy. Some would argue Klitshcko against Byrd however I think he probably saved his career. Not many examples but Joshua does not need boxing. If he cannot beat Ruiz he should walk away from the sport (with his head held high). He will be successful in life whatever he does now.

 

Did he really quit though? I thought the referee stopped the fight, Joshua wasn't responding that good but he didn't really quit. He just got his arse kicked and it was a good stoppage looking back.

 

As @im sparticus said it's hard to tell what level of concussion he was suffering. One thing is for sure he wasn't right before, during or after the fight but when you lean back onto the ropes when the ref ask you to walk forward then he has to stop the fight. That to me is clear indication that either you do not want to continue or you have no clue where you are or what you are doing.

 

Joshua was gone wasn't he, the referee could see that he was done. It wasn't like he was punched in the leg and quit between rounds.

The bit about Klitschko was hilarious

Great to see him looking so healthy and confident. "I'm surprising myself in the gym everyday." That's not something he'd usually say.

I think there’s a fine line between quitting and not wanting it anymore. Joshua didn’t quit, he didn’t stay on the canvas and get counted out, I think he’d have just kept getting up and knocked back down again. He didn’t ‘no mass’ it either.

However, he didn’t want it anymore. He didn’t think he had it in him to turn it round. Like Fury said, he gave up on himself. He shown against Klitschko that he can dig deep, hang on for dear life and eventually prevail. On June 1st he wasn’t willing to dig deep again. That heart wasn’t there.

You could say Fury did that in life, and you’d be absolutely right to an extent. He’s held his hand up and said he’s mentally ill though. To admit that in this day and age with all the stigma attached to mental illness takes massive nads. He’s a fascinating yet frustrating character, full of contradictions...inspirational yet flawed. In the ring imo he is the best heavyweight on the planet.
