since the age of 8 i was following this guys fights so way back in 95, just heard his on the ropes interview, and i was kind of sad to see what happened to him.his parkinsons has really deminished his quality of living, to those who haven't listened to the interview he says that if he had to do things over, he'd have stuck to baseball rather then boxing because of his parkinsons. that **** is ****ing depressing to hear, especially from someone who had the kind of career he had.
btw norris is one of my favourite fighters all time, and i think he'd beat anyones ass from 147-154 in the last 2 decade.

I was just reading about this, had no Idea he had Parkinsons. Sad to hear. Hard to believe that some people believe that fighters with the syndrome would have still got it without boxing.

Terry wasn't the strongest mentally and he had a shaky chin.

Zab could beat Baldomir, but he didn't

DIdn't know he had Parkinson's. Sad to hear indeed. Julian Jackson KO was brutal, and that was early in his career. Amazing he went on to have the career he did after that. He did get KO'd quite a few times throughout it, not surprising that he suffered serious damage. But yeah really sad.

Very sad. He's one of my all-time favorite fighters too, along with Marvin Hagler and The motorcity cobra. It's really depressing as the OP stated that his life is the way it is now.

guys that get knocked out because of a shaky chin rarely end up with long term affects.....he had alot of fights and he was also known as a boxer....i dont remember him taking any serious punishment over 1 fight his entire career...he either blew someone out, out boxed them, or he got blown out...
so i am very surprised ...he only was KO'd 4 times... 2 were one punch KO's and the other 2 were 2 out of his 3 very last fights....

It's hell to make it out of the game with your health and wealth intact. Sometimes it's neither.

Norris was known to have intense and long sparring sessions.

    That probably played a part.

yep...ive often said the hundreds of rounds of sparring for 1 fight will be the reason for most brain damage,.... ever seen Alis sparring sessions? he would let these guys just pound on him day in and day out (not the young ali, but the one from 1971 on up)

It is hard to tell if Parkinsons is related to boxing. Although Roach,Norris and Ali got it very young. I don't think it causes it, but it might speed up the age of onset. But parkinsons is one of those things which stem cells can help. I am sure there will be a cure for it soon enough.

Yeah, you have to figure in a guy like Jake LaMotta, now 90. He used to get much bigger guys to punch him imn the face/head without head gear--to "toughen him up." As well as taking hell in the ring from SRR and others. Still has his wits. ANd no Parkinsons, as far as I know. Of course he still is paranoid, and would still like to go after those who took his Vikki away.

MAybe paranoia helps. Or whatever was different about his physiology that protected his brain.

I watched Terry spar 12-15 rounds a day at Tocco's for weeks.

His training was legendary, he'd do sit-ups for 30-40 minutes at a time.

He was damn near super-human, no one could keep up with him back then.
