How the hell did Andy Lee lose? I didnt get a chance to see it and didnt know he was fighting on fnf otherwise i wouldve watched it..
Please somebody who actually saw it explain...because Andy seemed to have good fundamentals and seemed to be getting better...how the hell did this hapen
I wouldnt say overhype... I think it was warranted... maybe he just doesnt have what it takes mentally....?.....not tough enough?
Vera turned it into a fight. Early on, Lee KD Vera, but Vera wasn't hurt too much. Basically, he started walking him down and Lee can't fight on the inside all that well. Vera appeared to be stronger as well. Lee had more pop, but Vera kept coming, and you could tell Lee was getting worn down and wasn't putting his punches together anymore. Lee started catching some good shots from Vera in the 5th or so, and it carried on that way until the 7th where Vera was landing much more than Lee, but Lee was still fighting. Lee never went down, but the ref stopped it, ironically, right after Lee threw a punch and hit Vera pretty flush....it was a bad stoppage IMO because Lee was fighting back the whole time, though covering up a bit when Vera turned it up from time to time. But Vera was going to win....
He was very leaky defensively. Even in some of his bigger rounds, Vera was landing a good deal of punches. And his pressure/physical strength was getting to Lee. He was countering Vera well, but they were single shots. Had he thrown more combinations, he would have had more success, and possibly put Vera away. Another thing that concerned me was his lack of head movement. He holds his hands low, but lacks the reflexes and head movement to get away with it. Typical of most Steward fighters, Lee couldn't fight on the inside. But unlike Wladimir Klitschko, he can't tie guys up effectively when they get inside. Lee didn't look very strong in there, too.
The fight went according to plan for three rounds until three things happened. Andy got cut. He realized he couldn't KO Vera with one shot. Vera realized he couldn't be KO'd by one shot. The fourth through the seventh were marked by very crude exchanges, that Vera started getting the better of. Lee was badly hurt in the middle of the seventh by a sequence of Vera right hands. He tried to recover, but was nailed flush again in the middle of the ring, prompting the ref to, amazingly, end the fight in the middle of an exchange with both fighters nowhere near the ropes.
1) He's got a lot of heart. He has a good chin, too. A lot of guys wouldn't have stayed on thier feet. 2) He's slow. His handspeed was APPALLINGLY slow. I was expecting MUCH more from him. 3) He's tall, but he got backed up since round 2. How does this happen? He was getting backed up and pushed around. 4) His power obviously isn't as good as he thought it was. It was almost as if he lost confidence when he realized that his punches weren't really slowing Vera down 5) When Andy wasn't PAWING with his jab, his hand was so low you would think he was tying his shoes. 6) He doesn't know how to tie up when the other fighter gets inside 7) His footwork is almost non-existent He looked VERY easy to hit. Very easy. 9) He looked tired after the 3rd round. He looked tired and slow. 10) I feel bad for the kid but he is a hype machine. I don't think Andy Lee sniffs a title.
i didnt know much bout lee but i thought he was being over hyped just by the media alone. im sure hes not a bad fighter.
These are all very good points. Prior to tonight I had only seen Lee's TV debut, one other fight, and some stuff on You tube. I kept looking for the speed and power I heard so much about, but it NEVER showed up. The kid is VERY raw, very green, and needs a good 10 fights, all wins, before he's ready for a shot at any title.
