Jones has absolutley no power despite being a drug cheat, his punches are really weak, his kicks are powerful though.
His ground and pound had massive power. I'm not talking about his stand up. Again, i'm not talking about his stand up power. He could do a lot of damage to people on the ground. His elbows were very nasty. You cant, but like I said the guy getting hit is in a worse position to absorb strikes too. Its just a different type of beating than getting lit up on the feet.
I disagree, and I mentioned elbows being more damaging anyway, Brock was a clown, Aspinal would have finished him in the 1st round with ease.
Brock fought prime Cain, prime K1 Ubereem, Carwin, Mir, Randy, Herring and Hunt while having a grand total of 9 fights. They tried to have him fight DC and prime JDS too. Hardly a clown. Using "Aspinall would finish him in the first round" as a benchmark for whether someone is good or not seems unfair considering thats what hes doing to everybody he fights.
In that late 00s/early 10s era the UFC had Cain, JDS, Brock, Carwin, Mir, Big Country, Kongo etc while outside of the UFC there was Fedor, Reem, DC, Werdum, Barnett, Bigfoot, Arlovski, Kharitanov, Aleks, Big Tim etc. It was a significantly better/deeper era than today. MMAs evolution in general gets exaggerated too. Every division in the UFC from 170lbs above is worse now than it was in 2010.
Actually, if you dumb down the scoring criteria of MMA control time isn’t taken into account unless damage is equal. Medan Merab having control time and doing absolutely nothing with it, unless you consider 11 useless knees to the leg as damage doesn’t do anything for him for scoring points especially consider O’Malley out struck him entirely. I’m not saying Merab didn’t look dominant and I’m not saying the scorin criteria is perfect, but he did not win round 1 by the scoring criteria MMA judges use.
But Mark has a point. Wrestlers that literally hug and do zero damage are painful. Thats the whole reason why this scoring criteria was put in place. Let’s look at Bella Vs Edward’s. Belal didn’t do a lot of damage on the floor minus the big slam in round 2? I think. But he did enough damage on the feet to warrant him winning that fight. Although that was a ‘dominant’ performance he still lost 2 rounds CLEARLY on damage. This ‘dominant’ victory was 3 rounds to 2 Now let’s look at another fight like DDP Vs Strickland. The reason DDP won that fight was because, not only did he get the take downs and use a bit of control time to sway the judges, in 3 out of the 5 rounds he matched Strickland in the striking, therefore control time, takedowns and damage get taken into account.
Also if you want to see what effective grappling and wrestling looks like, last weekend, Moicano this weekend against Saint Dennis. Everything he’s doing is progressive to score damage. Not to just run down the clock, or tire his opponent out, but to progressive your positions inside the grapple to score points. Ironically Moicano might actually be one of the best grapplers in the bantamweight division despite being ranked outside the top 10.
lol! Aspinal is the most rounded fighter in UFC heavyweight history. Khabib was better than anyone who fought around the 2010 era.
Overeem was 37 at the time and had been finished 11 times in MMA and at least 2 twice in kickboxing. Hardly an impressive feat considering Ngannous power.
My main point was that Overreem didn`t have any success after getting busted for being a PED cheat, also Alex Pereira is far better at 37 than Reem was at the same age plus Alex hits harder and P4P hits harder than any MMA fighter from around the 2010 era. This content is protected
