UFC maybe. Fighters were allowed to knee to the head of a downed opponent in Pride and early MMA comps. This content is protected
I dont understand how you're simultaneously pushing this narrative while talking up how great Khabib was lol.
Hes a big puncher but lets not get carried away. Even in current MMA Ngannou and Pavlovich at least very likely hit harder, maybe a few others too (Lewis, Renan, Aspinall). Thats without even getting into boxing or kickboxing and all the guys there that hit harder. Btw Poatan and this fight about to happen kind of illustrates how MMAs evolution is exaggerated. We've got a LHW title fight between a kickboxer with limited grappling against another striker who has allegedly never once shot for a takedown in his entire UFC career. We were getting stuff like Chuck/Randy for that same title TWENTY YEARS AGO. We're almost at the 10th anniversary of Jones/DC too.
Alex is a decent grappler. Him and Izzy are quick learners . There are many failed strikers who never even ventured past regional mma . Alex also got rushed into the sport bypassing wrestlers. It has more to do with weight class in the ufc today, there aren’t that many stud wrestlers as before. And match making. More good grapplers are getting into bjj also because its more profitable sometimes than ufc mma.
Khabib was simply more dominant than any other wrestler in UFC history, he was explosive and his stand up wasn`t too shabby either, look at how many opponents he stopped compared to other wrestlers in the UFC, would you compare Belal to Khabib?
Periera is a lot bigger than light heavies in the past and he has a long reach, I didn`t say he hit harder than Ngannou I simply said he`s big enough to hit harder than many heavyweights, not all, not only is Aspinal a harder head to head puncher, but he`s a better finisher but he has quicker hands than Alex.
Belal actually did quite a bit of damage in that Leon fight. I mean he literally dumped Leon on his ****ing head. But overall no, I wouldnt compare Belal to Khabib. But then I wouldnt compare him to Islam, Khamzat, Hughes, Brock, Coleman, Jones, Tito, Rashad, Randleman, Erickson, Kerr etc etc either. Point being there have been plenty of devastating wrestlers over the years.
I think Jones benefited from being bigger than his light heavy opponents, he had a reach advantage and rally long legs and would destroy opponents with leg kicks, plus he was on roids, he failed more drug tests than any other UFC fighter.
