Is this staemant true? Was Winky Wright a better counter puncher than Canelo is right now? Someone made this claim when I stated under a thread that Canelo is a better counter puncher than anybody B-hop beat during his long career.

Canelo has ridiculously overrated counterpunching ability regardless

Neither are great counter-punchers, but Canelo's are better than Wright. Wright had better defence, footwork and pace.

Spencer Fearon would 100% agree with this statement.

Winky was a solid all around fighter and very tough but he was not as good a counter puncher as canelo

Canelo seems to have morphed into more of a walk-em-down type than a counterpuncher these days. But I think he was better as a pure counterpuncher than Winky, who was very good himself. Winky was a hard night's work alright, but his tight guard was a big factor in his success and so was that long jab which he used to get off first before his opponents could blink. Canelo reads his opponents very well and always looks like he's figuring things out a step ahead, very smart fighter.
