If Wright had been born the same year as Monzon and fought all of Carlos`s title opposition at the same age Monzon fought them how would he have fared? I feel Wright`s high guard and jab would serve him well here, specifically v Monzon`s shorter armed opponents.

    Badly.

Griffith, Benevenuti, Briscoe, Napoles and Valdez demolish or school him.

I think Wright would have lasted longer than Napoles did v Monzon because Carlos would have had problems with Wright`s high guard.

Yeah, that and he wasn't running at Monzon like Napoles did. If Monzon took it to Winky like he did in the 5th/6th bs Napoles, Winky ain't seeing 3 let alone 7.

Winky's main weapon was his excellent jab he crucified Trinidad with it,agaihnst Carlos his high guard would invite body shots round the side and Monzon was never out jabbed.

Briscoe’s blend of power, strength and volume would beat Wright. Wright struggled with volume and relentless opponents.

Benvenuti was past his best. I would take a prime Nino but the Monzon version could go either way. Valdez beats Wright for sure. Napoles, of course was way better than any of these guys but not a middleweight. He wasn’t in great condition for the Monzon one and was past it. Would t be that surprised if Winky beat him but I’d pick Mantequilla still.

Remembering a lot of Carlos Monzon's title defenses, he did counter to the body and head.

First of all, the name Winky does have to go, but in all seriousness, I believe that Bad Bennie Briscoe would be very dangerous for Wright, he did like to apply a lot of pressure to his opponents, as he did to Carlos, in their title bout in 1972, but if you noticed, Carlos countered and moved. Rodrigo Valdes would be way too dangerous for Wright, he could box, but that right hand that sent Briscoe into dreamland in 1974 and Monzon to the canvas for a mandatory eight count in 1977, could stop Wright.

Monzon would miss a lot and was open to the counter jab, Winky had a good southpaw jab.

Yes but Winky had long arms and tucked his elbows in.

Monzon used to be caught with a lot of counter jabs.

Winky was really good against smaller fighters and wasn't phased by power punchers. He was vulnerable against volume punchers due to the high guard.

If I didn’t know any better I’d think you’re becoming a fan of Winky Wright
