I'm not a deluded fan boy neither am I biased for or against fighters.
I'm also familiar with Satterfield and I used him to debunk your statement that Marshall,"never convincingly beat a heavyweight which is patently untrue! The scorecards of the 2nd Liston v Whitehurst do not indicate that Liston was baffled.

    Referee: Harry Kessler 50-37
I haven't seen the 1st Whitehurst fight, but this report again doesn't suggest "bafflement".

"Charles (Sonny) Liston of St. Louis, scoring repeatedly with both hands, won a unanimous decision over Bert Whitehurst of Baltimore Thursday night in a 10 round heavyweight bout. Liston, who weighed 205 to Whitehurst's 192, had the Baltimore fighter on the verge of a knockout with a savage attack in the 5th. It was Liston's 17th victory against one defeat as a pro." -Associated Press
    • Neither do the scorecards of the Machen fight suggest Liston was ever in danger of dropping the decision and bear in mind he lost two points
    • for low blows.

    • Referee: Whitey Domstad 119-112
    • Judge: Ely Caston 118-114
    • Judge: Sam Heller 118-116

Thank you for that! Always good to hear from a good poster such as yourself who doesn't frequent this board nearly as much as he should! Did you read the article I posted? I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts!

Don't think they understand the difference between being baffled and going the distance.

A fighter can win every round and still find elements of his opponents style baffling. It’s okay. Tyson against Mitch Green? Joe Louis against Pastor first time?

    Leon Spinks?

The second article says Burt Whitehurst was pitifully unskilled. That’s worse.

You're clutching at straws here. The fact that you're using a fight where the winner won every round to show that he had trouble shows how thin your case is.

 I said great. And by the way unless I'm mistaken Alfio Righetti was not ranked when Spinks fought him.

That part might be inaccurate but by no means is it worse than saying Williams nearly knocked Liston out. More BS from you.

I wasn't too impressed by that article. The bias showed through clearly in the part where the writer claimed Liston did all the hitting and Machen did all the running in their fight, when in fact Machen did a courageous and very credible job in giving Sonny a good fight with only one good arm.

The thing is also that Ali did in fact expose several of the weaknesses the SI article mentioned (as I remember it) even though it was written before the fights.

Two short sentences, comprising just 8 words ,the first sentence makes no sense whatsoever.
Par for the course I suppose. It's a shame to see such pathetic illiteracy in evidence from such a rich country.

Ali exposed the weaknesses in quite a few fighters I believe. Liston's was movement.

Yet again more lies from you! How shocking. Tyson didn't win every round. Tyson won 2 win two scores of 9-1 and another 8-2. Even disregarding your lies, would you honestly (if you even have as much as an ounce in your being that is) say Tyson was baffled by Green?
