Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times shares his thoughts on Kovalev-Ward: http://www.latimes.com/sports/boxing/la-sp-boxing-kovalev-ward-20161118-story.html This content is protected Ward playing the "spoiler" role is nothing new. That's how he fights. What's interesting, however, is Pugmire's thought (and maybe the thought of others) that Ward has indeed lost some foot speed. This belief has also been shown by some fans, as well. If Ward has slowed down in terms of hand speed or foot speed, that could spell trouble against Kovalev. On the other hand, Kovalev himself may be slowing down as a fighter. He did not look his best against Chilemba. Aging tends to favor sluggers over boxers. We'll find out more tomorrow night.
I think any loss of footspeed is minimal, and probably mostly the result of moving up in weight, where you always trade off a little speed for size.
Very true. But the idea that Ward will try to use the boxer/spoiler tactic which he used against hardhitters in the past, looks very plausible to me.
I'm a little confused. I'm at the barbershop right now, and nobody here is talking about the fight. It's even very possible they don't even know the fight is on tonight, nor care about it... Real life is nothing like tv. At least instead of old men hairdressers it's all young women, which is better anyway.
He's slowed down but also moved up in weight which naturally means fighters are slower than they once were but maybe not slower compared to what they're facing. I still think he will have a significant edge in speed. Enough of an advantage? We'll soon find out...
Yep know what you mean,Golden Boy must spend millions promoting Canelo, even against Liam Smith I saw more promotion than what should be the biggest fight in many a year?
