Very good performance by Nevin against (on paper) a classy opponent. Looked much better than he did in week 2 vs Italy. 50-45, 49-46x2 Nevin GB 2-0 USA Yeah, he just doesnt really utilise his reach & southpaw stance & couldnt adjust to Nevin's counters.
Cracking fight between Selby & Conlan :bbb Conlan did well applying pressure & he landed the harder shots throughout but Selby was a bit busier & cuter defensively. 50-45, 49-46x2 Selby GB 3-0 USA
Joe Ward wins again in a 1 sided fight, still hasnt lost a round in 3 WSB fights. 50-45x3 Ward GB 4-0 USA
Seen bits of the last 3, decent performances. We have a strong team, heavyweight is a bit of a weak area though I think.
Did anybody else hear the commentators talking about Joshua saying "We hope Anthony Joshua stays amateur" after the Joyce fight?
Obviously Woodhall would want him to stay Amateur as he is involved in the set up so it would improve his credentials/help keep his job.
True i can understand that, just the way he said "We" as if he was speaking for us all, I may be reading too much into it.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine & probably Italy are better imo. Selby & Ward are our only really top class guys. Nevin is good but is small at the weight, so is Evans. Beyond Ward lightheavy is weak & heavyweight is worse. We dont have the same depth as the best teams & I reckon we'll struggle in the knockout phase. Tbf we're doing well for our first year in WSB, its good experience for our lads.
I thought the WSB could be a challenge to pro boxing but having seen all the Lionhearts matches so far, if I'm honest, I find it all a bit boring. Repetitive fights with virtually no chance of a stoppage or knockout. There will be more action in any one of the live fights tonight on Boxnation than in any of those fights last night. Give me the pro game anytime.
