It's time to get interested in the amateur scene!

The regular season is already underway, and will run through March before the playoffs begin.

    There are five weight classes:

    Bantamweight
    Lightweight
    Middleweight
    Light Heavyweight
    Heavyweight

Every team has 2-4 members in each weight class. The teams are divided into continental conferences (American, European & Asian).

    American:
Los Angeles Matadors (USA) - currently #1 with a record of 2-0 in matches, 7-3 in bouts.
Mexico City Guerreros (Mexico) - currently #2 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 5-5 in bouts.
Memphis Force (USA) - currently #3 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 4-6 in bouts.
Miami Gallos (USA) - currently #3 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 4-6 in bouts.

    Asian:
Baku Fires (Azerbaijan) - currently #1 with a record of 2-0 in matches, 9-1 in bouts.
Astana Arlans (Kazakhstan) - currently #2 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 6-4 in bouts.
Beijing Dragons (pinko China) - currently #3 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 3-7 in bouts.
Incheon Red Wings (South Korea) - currently #4 with a record of 0-2 in matches, 2-8 in bouts.

    European:
Paris United (France) - currently #1 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 7-3 in bouts.
Istanbul Istanbulls (Turkey) - currently #2 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 5-5 in bouts.
Milan Thunder (Italy) - currently #3 with a record of 1-1 in matches, 5-5 in bouts.
Moscow Kremlin Bears (Russia) - currently #4 with a record of 3-7 in matches, 4-6 in bouts.

The next match is Memphis @ Miami - tomorrow night (Thursday 12/9) at 8pm Eastern. :good

Unfortunately, Versus is showing everything on tape-delay of at least a week. It's better than nothing! Besides, this event is likely to fly under the radar (at least in its inaugural season, as it starts catching on), so spoilers should be difficult to avoid.

I read about this in Ring magazine, and it sounds EXACTLY like what amateur boxing needs. Time to jettison all the silly ideas that have ruined it over the last 30 years or so - headgear (#1), computerized scoring, too many weight classes etc.

Well, I've been saving these on my DVR and finally got around to watching...

    :verysad

...only to have my very first viewing experience be a TOTAL ROBBERY.

note: The WSB uses the 10-point must system

Bantamweight Braulio Avila (Mexico City) completely outgeneraled and outpunched the hometown boy Jose Luis Meza (Miami) over 5 rounds and somehow lost a UD - with one scorecard reading 50-45 :patsch. Horrendous.

Maybe emulating the pros isn't such a good thing after all.

Has Kenny Egan fought yet? It's been hard to keep up with this lately. I know he's with Miami and Nevin is with Paris. Other than that haven't been able to watch or keep tabs on any of this.

Why is there no UK team?

Sucks how there is no UK team on M-1 either.

Do you remember the Avila-Meza fight?

    That 50-45 was pretty mind-boggling.

Well, Europe's a big continent and there are only 4 teams per conference...

I don't think it's all that big a slight on the UK (although it probably does have a more vibrant boxing scene than Turkey...)

Maybe it has something to do with qualification for the Olympics?

Do the British boxers get automatic qualification as we're the host nation?

That is the only reason I can think of.

What's up with the two Irishmen fighting for different countries and the Chinese team has non-Chinese fighters?!
