(That isn't meant to accuse the Azerbaijanis of corruption - although I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a concern - but they've just been so dominant in every match-up so far. Obviously that will come to an end at lightweight at the very least...)

 

Round 2

Magomedau is throwing hard rights to the sternum and big quick sweeping bottle rocket left hooks, clipping Lapin on the hairline as he pulls himself as though by marionette string off their sky-bound trajectory. Counter left jabs by Lapin, doing nothing to deter Magomedau as he ducks and leans with his arms resting on his knees and hips and launches big power attacks from odd low angles.

All three judges gave it 10-9 to Magomedau and have it 20-18 to Magomedau overall.

 

Round 3

Lapin is staying outside, flicking his left jab. Hook up top by Magomedau, clinch. Magomedau is cut. They check it out. Time in. Lapin sticks his long straight jab and then upends it to score a light hook. Magomedau stays low, under Lapin's jabbing lane, working the body with quick bursts of power and hurrying back outside to reset. Head clash. The ref has Magomedau's cut looked at once more. It's actually a bloody & swollen nose. They wipe some of the fluid away. Time in. Big left hook by Magomedau. Another. Stiff jab by Magomedau as they circle rapidly and fire simultaneously.

Judge 1 gave it 10-9 to Magomedau and has it 30-27 to Magomedau overall.

Judge 1 gave it 10-8 to Magomedau and has it 30-26 to Magomedau overall.

Judge 3 gave it 10-9 to Magomedau and has it 30-27 to Magomedau overall.

 

Round 4

Magomedau is putting up jabs from the hip, catching Lapin on the mandible and making his neck wobble. Magomedau skates out of reach, using zero arm defense and just removing his head from the danger zone when Lapin sends out his long straight easily scouted jab. Lapin is snapping it as quickly as he can but can't find Magomedau at the end of it. Magomedau is putting in light touches to the chest ducking in under Lapin's jab and then dropping into a seated position to deny Lapin a countering opportunity.

Am I nuts? What made that a clear Lapin round? :huh

Did they see Magomedau getting hit with more than he really was? That daredevil approach might be unwise in general but Lapin wasn't really able to punish him for it, that I saw.

 

Round 5

Magomedau is tired now, and on cruise control. No more body attacks. Magomedau is drifting outside, seeking each set of ropes by turn and pushing off from them to keep up his bike ride. Lapin follows with jabs and 1-2s, picking him off from long range. This is Lapin's type of match: a clay pigeon exercise. Magomedau clinches and puts up some left hooks while holding Lapin in the crook of his right arm. The bell rings and Magomedau pumps his fists triumphantly although he got tagged a bunch in that last few minutes and may not have been far from getting stopped.
