once you have been ko'd...your punch resistance doesn't improve. it only gets worse. bute getting ko'd so brutally in the amateurs took away from what he could have been in the pros. they fight with 10oz gloves in the olympics and the wsb. they're not much different. the wsb uses top ten or adidas style gloves which has the padding distributed more towards the knuckles than the wrist. those were the same style gloves that golovkin put bute to sleep with. if froch had faced the bute that golovkin ko'd...he would have been beaten easily.

i know exactly how amateur boxing works. i wasn't suggesting the win/loss records mean anything in the amateurs. i'm saying that the best fighting the best should only happen at the olympics and other tournaments that lead to the olympics. wsb is pitting some of the worlds best fighters against each other prematurely for peanuts. they are not making any money here in the u.s. i can't speak on the wsb in other places where pro boxing is not that big.

Your talking about if and buts and maybes here. Theres no evidence that Froch wouldnt have done the same to the bute golovkin fought

Do you have anymore examples that have more bases

So you are basically saying that WSB is "****" because there you can regularly see the best boxers fighting each other for not enormous amounts of money?

can you? i know here in l.a. they give away the tickets. i've only seen the fights on youtube or replay on cable. most of the time i don't even know when the fights are occuring.

    ask yourself this....

as a fighter...would you want to fight the worlds best for $5000?

would you like to fight in an empty hall where there aren't very many fans to cheer you on?

would you want to fight where the only ppl that will see you fight will be watching you on a youtube replay?

how is this risk worth the reward? and what does my future look like as a prize fighter?

    true.

i've watched several of the wsb fights. i can't name any names at the moment...but i can show you guys who would have had great pro careers if they were smart enough to continue developing instead of rolling the dice in the wsb. the best fighting the best should not be happening at the beginning of these guys pro careers. they should learn as they go and take on challenges that will help them build up to the championship level. i think as a fan...ppl want to see the best fight the best...but they don't have any real knowledge of what it takes to develop the best. sometimes fighters need to be protected so that they can grow.

So you're saying that it's bad for the sport? I don't know about the situation in the United States, but it's far from "empty halls" in Italy, Cuba, Russia and Kazakhstan from what I've seen. WSB is the best possible experience they can get between the major amateur tournaments.

I think the WSB is great always good fights, but I refuse to watch it after watching cuba vs russia a couple of weeks ago, the hometown decisions and corruption is too much for me!!

great. if it works for those countries....why not? if and when those guys can get to the top of the wsb and still have anything left...they should make their way over to the u.s. to make the real money for the work they put into the sport.

One of the most important parts in developing a fighter is matching him against good challenging opposition like in the WSB, so i dont see how this hampers a fighters development. Its not like there throwing in unknown 17 year olds against olympic champions. You do get the odd mismatch when the weaker teams face the better teams but thats about it and you barely if ever see a devastating knocked un-concious ko in the WSB so i dont see how its a problem.

Of course the judging is terrible but theres no reason to stop watching it just because you love the Cubans and they got screwed over. I think iv seen every team screwed over at this stage

I watched the Cruz Ivanov fight and while i admit Cruz did win it he was fighting away from home and he wasnt stamping his domination on the fight, against top class opposition he doesnt seem to want to engage at all and away from home that will be his downfall

You realise that the WSB is exactly the same as amateur boxing now, but over 5 rounds instead of 3? WSB is a way for fighters to make money without turning pro. Knockouts are less common in the WSB than in amateur boxing, it's a good concept with teams and national pride on the line.
You do realise that a lot of boxers really don't care about turning pro right? So why would you have a problem with them making some money while they fight in 5 round amateur fights (WSB)?
