What kind of douchebag quotes his own post? I friggen do! lol anyways I just watched through this video again and there really is some nice footage in there...much more than I remembered from years ago. There is footage of Ali and Liston...Bob Foster...Dick Tiger...Beau Jack...Ike Williams...including interviews when they were older...also you got Angelo Dundee.....Dempsey....Jack Johnson and Stanley Ketchel...Gene Fullmer...Sugar Ray Robinson...Marciano...Graziano...Schmeling and of course a young Larry Merchant. Hearing Gene Fullmer talk about being knocked out by Robinson as on older man while watching the fight footage is just great. This video is packed with boxing goodness. Tyson even gives Merchant a lesson in knockout punching technique at one point. Watch this video you whores. I think Rumsfeld in particular would enjoy this.
You know, for as smaller as HBO Boxing's roster has gotten, and they have lost a lot of talent to other networks, mainly due to the ESPN deal, which has seen former HBO stars like Lomachenko and Pacquiao fight on ESPN instead of HBO, they still are the kings of boxing in my opinion. Yes Showtme has taken over to an extent, they have a lot more talent over there, but HBO still has the biggest event of the year Canelo vs GGG, and HBO still provides the best presentation and big time feel in the business. The HBO commentary team, despite there being plenty of Max Kellerman haters, is still loads better than having to put up with Mauro Ranallo and Paulie Malignaggi on Showtime. So yeah HBO has definitely lost a lot of talent, and has been surpassed in many ways by Showtime / ESPN / etc but they're still the best in the business with the biggest fight of the year coming up.
If you're that young kid that wants mommy or daddy to read you a fairytale, then yes HBO is for you. …...but if you want the goods to be delivered to you raw and much less fictitiously, then Showtime is by far a better avenue to get that.
The heavyweight division has been disagreeable with HBO for three eras now. Lennox Lewis, Vladimir Klitschko and now Anthony Joshua, for the most part produced boring fights and to add insult to injury they weren't even from the USA. Plus, HBO failed to get Lomachenko, which might actually be good for the sport of boxing in general but bad for HBO.
I'm obsessed with Game of Thrones, and went the HBO NOW route. I just wish live fights could be viewed from it. If we're lucky, fights that took place 2 weeks ago are put up there for us to watch. I've heard Showtime's app actually has live programming, can someone confirm? Oh well, it's still a wondrous time we live in. It is sad to see the network's boxing passion decline. They were the vanguard of quality fights on tv for so many years.
