He's very dependable and you know what to expect from him each and every time ......he won't make weight!:yep He failed to make weight for Campbell and bankrupted him. He also failed to make weight against Funeka and now he failed to make weight for his opponenet last night. When you have a guy like that who you can depend on to do or not do something, its a great comfort for a promoter and the network. All you have to do is lie to him, and tell him a fight is at 140, but sneakily put it in the contract that the fight is at 154. That way when he shows up overweight for 140, he will actually still be within the Jr. MW limit of 154. Using this method, you can plan fights with confidence around Mr. Guzman knowing that this consumate professional will make the contracted weight that he didn't know existed.:deal
Funeka is a paul williams, winky wright type guy who people would rather not fight...not to mention...obvious poor management...this guy has talent...he needs to be in the ring asap
Yep it was a huge risk. He knew Davis would be hungry and dangerous because he didn't want to make it "lucky 7" in a row.
Are you talking about the illegal diuretic he took to make weight against Guzman in the rematch or something else?
Guzman is NOT a consummate professional . Guzman showed how unprofessional he could be when he cheated his way to a decision against Humberto Soto. Guzman tried to trade with Soto the first couple of round, but when Guzman could no longer handle Soto's power, Guzman Intentionally Fouled Soto with a deliberate low blow in the 3rd, and RAN, RAN and RAN like a scared chicken for the rest of the fight, and would turn his back, a full 90 degrees (like a COWARD) to avoid being hit by Soto. After that fight, Guzman became known as Guzrunner.
He was suspended for 6 months after Guzman II because he used an illegal diuretic. Since that ended, not quite sure.
