You don't understand. Every match-up is different. Cutting weight for some, is a positive and can give you an advantage. But that's not the case in every fight. For example, Baldomir weighing more than May was not an advantage. They were saying that Baldomir would walk around at 180 LOL. You're telling me that a 5'7" midget walking at 180 when he doesn't fight is solid? Do you think that's a healthy weight for a guy of his stature? Do you think that's a guy who's in shape? Baldomir is undersized. Carrying those extra pounds wasn't going to do **** in this case. I'd go as far as to say Mayweather is stronger P4P than Baldomir. There's a battle outside the ring with weight for every boxer. Everyone has a different body. Some guys have a different metabolism. Some are not as active when they don't fight. That doesn't mean that Baldomir belongs at Jr Middleweight. It just means that he can't make the ****ing weight. So they drain because they feel that it's there best chance to compete in that weight division, considering their overall size. Baldomir is hardly a welter, let alone a Jr Middleweight.

i agree, and that would be awesome but come on....regular people can't even do that, imagine once you start traveling and making the bucks......miss me with that ****, homie

floyd isn't as dedicated as people give him credit for...his workouts are always basic, and he's always eating junk.....fact

It depends, theres plenty of high level athletes who at 5'7 and weigh around 180.

Dwight Qawi was a top ranked 190lbser and he was only 5'6.

Baldomir got beaten because Floyd was WAY better than him.

Baldmoir looked just fine beating Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti at 147

He may have weighed 180 out of camp, but he obviously lossed the excess pounds coming up to the fight by watching his diet, and training hard, and then cutting in the last week, before coming into the ring a lean and ready 161.

    Why are there weight divisions?

Also the stronger you are the bigger you tend to be.

Theres no 170lbs'ers competing in the worlds strongest man competitions...

Olympic weight lifting is divided in weight divisions, because smaller guys, who train just as hard as the big guys cant compete with the big guys.

Are you telling me that if Baldo walked around at say 155lbs., and had the same skill set, he would've faired better against Mayweahter? The obvious answer is no. He would've been at more of a disadvantage. Cutting weight is a give and take proposition. You'll sacrifice some energy, but you'll gain strength in comparison to your foes. If a fighter has a style that isn't dependent much on his strength, he's not going to cut much weight. That's why Mayweather fights at pretty much where his walking around weight is. His style is such that even against a bigger, stronger man, he can still be effective. So for him, why drain himself? For a guy like Chavez Jr., his style dictates that he needs to be bigger and stronger than is opponent to be successful. That's why he cuts so much weight. The decrease in energy is more than made up for in the relative increase in size and strength. Most fighters simpy aren't talented enough to consistently fight against bigger guys.

For sure BBall, but remember we spoke about this before. Every match-up is different. Extra pounds can give you an advantage if you're at a healthy weight. Cotto is another example of poor weight. Just look at the fights bro. When was the last time you saw Mayweather get punked in the ring? Mayweather is STRONG. You can't measure strength with weight. Have you ever been to the gym? P4P, Mayweather is just as strong or even stronger than many of his opponents, regardless of weight. Look at his build. If I'm 10 pounds heavier, IN NO WAY does that mean I will automatically be stronger, or that I will be able to use it as an advantage.

yeah I know what you mean, but Floyd is strong at 147, but he'd be stronger at 140 compared to his opponents. He himself may not be as strong, but that would be compensated for by him going against guys around his size.

Now of course you can cut too much weight like Rios at 135 or Dawson at 168. And I know you can be strong and small. I'm pretty strong myself for a 144 pound person and can outlift many people bigger than me. But if you're bigger, you have more potential to get stronger. It doesn't mean you will of course.

That also adds to Floyd's aura, that he's smaller than these fighters, but he's just as strong or stronger than them when THEY SHOULD be stronger than he is

Countless number of trainers and boxers who have witnessed Floyd train say he trains like no other.
