http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_Timurziev The most exciting fighter alive beat Cammarelle en route to a European Championship win in 2006. In 2007 at the world championship he had to settle for Bronze with an illness, at the Olympics he was upset by a beautiful KO by David Price. Yes, he is a little chinny but the Russian Tommy Morrison is an awesome puncher who can box, too. Why stay amateur? The same goes for the biggest-hitting 201lbs fighter Evgeny Romanov, he'll never be amateur world champ but knocks your head off (KOd Deontay Wilder). TURN PRO, dudes!
Islma is retired, I heard. On the Euro forum, a lot of guys say he never really recovered from his illness, and its not safe for him to figth.
I,too, heard that Timurziev has retired for good due to health problems. He is a big puncher and a very capable heavy weight, but he disappointed a lot of fans around the globe with his totally lacklustre performance against Price. A motivated, mentally hungry version of Timurziev would have wipe the floor with that limited British opponent at the olympics. Timurziev was destined to win gold then.He was the big favourite to capture the most important olympic medal. Kicked out of the tournament by a b fighter from the UK!atsch
I didnt intend to belittle Price, but the Brit is no classy talent who can make a lot of noise at heavy weight. He lacks too many sharp weapons to make the water hot for the fighters of the uppper echelon of his weight division. I was dumbfounded to learn that Price beat Timurziev at the olympics.A healthy and motivated version of Timurziev wouldnt have had a tough time with this kind of opponent. Fighters like Price are a dime a dozen.Decent fighter who lacks the special touch of magic to climb up the golden throne of power and money!
