Todays Sunday Mirror (March 1st 2009): JENNINGS WANTS COTTO REMATCH Britain's Michael Jennings is ready to get back in the ring against the only man who has stopped him. Jennings believes that he let down his fans and himself when he was overpowered in five rounds by Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in their WBO welterweight title fight at New York's Madison Square Garden last week. Now the 31-year-old from Chorley, Lancashire, wants redemption. He insists he will show his true capability if Cotto gives him a rematch. Jennings said: "I know I could have done better than I did in that fight and I'd love the chance to get another go at him. It will be a different story if we do it again. If anything this defeat has made me even more determined to carry on. It was very hostile over there, with so many of his fans behind him, and it was all a very new experience for me. He's a top fighter but he didn't hurt me and I've learned a lot from that fight. The real Michael Jennings will turn up next time." Jennings accepts he must work his way back up the world rankings and will set out his plans after talks with Brian Hughes. "I could go back to the British and Commonwealth route or the European," added Jennings. "All I do know that is that I'm not finished." I'll bet you Cotto is shitting himself at the prospect of a rematch.....apparently he didn't hurt Jennings first time round. Cotto - Jennings II anyone?
"He didn't hurt me" Yeah thats why he shat himself and started to take a knee when Cotto punched Jennings in the 5th round. God his corner did the right thing by pulling him out, at least he wasn't leaving the ring on a stretcher or worse still brain damage.
what?? that'll be the hurt pride talking surely? cotto couldnt have beat him more soundly if he'd took a bat to him. outclassed totally. i like jennings but cotto v jennings 2? no thanks. back to the drawing board mate, set your sights elsewhere.
this is a joke he had his chance and i said he went down quite easy and never went out ala vargas for example and i said jennings will think to himself down the line that he never get it his all, for this quote i got a lot of stick on the brit forum for it well i was obviously correct and i think jennings is more likely to get a shot at pavlik than cotto again
His pride has been dented more than anything else, i'd say. He's unlikely to ever get near a prime Cotto ever again unless he gets some 3-4 good quality wins under his belt. But who could he fight?
About as relevant as Hatton PBF II. Both Brits got a whipping, and reckon they could do better in a rematch!
Jennings was lucky he saw five rounds, Cotto fought fairly catious and technically content on winning rounds. After we saw the Cotto we all know Jennings was out of there.
