I think Manny and Cotto would be a bad fit. Cotto's not tall enough for the style that Manny teaches (jab, right hand, clinch when needed). At this point, given the wars that Cotto has been in, I'm not sure if it makes a difference. I like Miguel, but I don't think he's the same given the punishment he's taken in the ring.
shows cotto cares....regardless of how much he has left, shows his heart is still in it. its like a race car...you want the best driver driving the car...no matter how many miles is on the car
Manny's first order of business: Get Miguel on the medieval torture rack for a good 6 months to stretch him into being 6'2. Do that, and the rest will come.
Stewart will throw him to the curb after a loss or two. It didnt take him much to get rid of Taylor. I wonder what they are talking about Cotto training in Tampa (as he did last time) Usually the fighter goes to the trainer's town not the other way around? Manny is very busy, wouldnt Cotto come to Manny?
Manny lives in Detroit, but I can't remember the last time he had a fighter train here. I think he goes where the fighter is or where the figher is comfortable.
What a shame I think he could have helped Cotto a lot in the past and probably preserved him a little better, but anyone besides the cheerleader is better. He will need a solid gameplan to find the mobile Foreman.
Stewart has been trying to get his hands on Cotto for some time now. Must see something in the kid he can fix.
Good point. I guess I was thinking of having a full training camp here, but I do believe you're right about Taylor and the Winky fight.
I actually disagree with this part. I am not the biggest Emmanuel STeward fan but I have to say he has shown an excellent ability to tweak a fighters style. And if I had to pick a trainer that could be able to come in and change a few things with a fighter to make him a better fighter late in his career Emmanuel Steward would be the guy to do it. He did it for Aaron Pryor, he did it for LL, and he did it for Wlad. There has always of course been a few guys that he hasn't messed well with like Naseem Hamed and Jermain Taylor but I honestly think Cotto doesn't have the personality flaws they had and that this would be an excellent match.
Steward is a far better trainer than an inexperienced Santiago. Surely Steward isn't going to change Cotto into a new animal overnight. But it's definitely an upgrade. My guess is Cotto is probably even more damaged after the fight with Pac. But if he truly wants to continue fighting it's only common sense to hook up with one of the best trainers in Boxing.
