Rogan says whatever pops into his head. Tell me a time when the UFC highlights a fighter in the crowd that is not contracted to them.

 

I just don't think dividing the sanctioning body and the promotional body is ever going to work - the power is always going to be with the people bringing the cash in and eventually they'll be able to subvert the sanctioning body. That's what happened with boxing - when the big money really started to flow it soon became impossible for the likes of the WBC/WBA and the British Board of Control to keep their cosy cartels going.

The FIFA system may be based on cooperation between different organisations but its not co-promotion. UEFA doesn't determine how the World Cup is promoted in Europe and the FA doesn't determine how the Champions League is promoted in England. The tournaments are managed by one organisations that has a clear vision for its development and marketing. That's a huge advantage for sports like soccer and its one that the UFC shares over boxing.

That said I do think the UFC should be working to set up regional/feeder leagues. Maybe its something that will come as the sport grows but there needs to be a better process for grooming young fighters. Its surely insane that the UFC's main commitment to T&D is The Ultimate Fighter.
