WTF why is Mikey Garcia fighting Orlando Cruz?

Hasn't Cruz just beat some bum?(no pun intended)

I always say that a champion is entitled to money defences,so I can't be too harsh on Garcia here, but Cruz has just beat a guy who I read had no place being in with him,so his reward is a big money title fight?
Between guys with big noses using them being broken as excuses to pull out and a guy getting a title shot because he's a poof, boxing can be so gay at times.

Cruz will expose Garcia's weak chin and KO/TKO taking his soul. Garcia is sooooooooooooooooooo over rated  , thank God he is no overly hyped!

    War Cruz!

What's wrong with taking on the guy that earned his shot? Mikey will still be fighting the big names out there, but there should and always will be guys to fight in between.

Anyone slating this needs to slow their roll and :stfu

Cruz has earned his spot relative to all other contenders. He would also give Mikey quite a bit more difficulty (although with virtually no chance at the upset) than someone like a JML who is tailor-made for Garcia to knock out.

this is something that makes me shake my head...last year no one knew about cruz other than he got bodied by ponce de leon some years back..and now he's getting all this attention not because of any significant skillset or victories but because of the gay angle...can't respect that all

What attention? He didn't become the #1 ranked contender because of his orientation being publicized. He became the #1 ranked contender by defeating the necessary amount of necessarily ranked opponents at the necessary rate of activity to improve & maintain that mandatory status.

Seriously just STFU with these empty claims, you're coming off like a complete knob.

There is nobody else the WBO currently has ranked who ought to be in line in front of Cruz.

    The latest rankings, from March:

    2. Gary Russell Jr. - better than Cruz, but resume is still lacking. Besides, his last outing was at super feather...he might be gone from 126.
    3. Joel Brunker - not as good as Cruz.
    4. Rey Bautista - not as good as Cruz.
    5. Orlando Salido - better than Cruz, but Garcia just whipped him.
    6. Juan Manuel Lopez - stylistically matches up with Garcia far worse than Cruz, and is coming off essentially two straight losses in meaningful bouts. He does not deserve it as of now.
    7. Hiroshige Osawa - who?? This is me asking this...
    8. Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo - just lost to John in November, two rebound tune-ups shouldn't get him back into contention.
    9. Kamil Laszczyk - OK resume by Euro standards, but not for world contention. FFS, he's scheduled next against some 5-2 nobody.
    10. Jayson Velez - was angling for a Ponce De Leon match and may still be pursuing that avenue (or Abner Mares if he claims Ponce De Leon's WBC belt)

    :nono

Whatever you read was wrong, or else you misunderstood it.

Aalan Martinez is no bum. He is a decent semi-prospect/future solid gatekeeper.

His only previous loss was by UD to current IBF champ Evgeny "The Mexican Russian" Gradovich, in which he was fairly competitive.

He beat a couple of fellow prospects along the way before challenging Orlando Cruz, and was coming directly off a mild upset of the decent young veteran & Golden Boy signee Ramon Valadez.

What happened, and here is maybe where you got confused reading about it, is that Cruz made him look as though he didn't belong in the ring with him. Such was the dominance and gulf in talent, you would've thought Martinez was a bum they pulled off the street...when in reality Cruz is just really kinda good.

Not good enough that he shouldn't be a sizable underdog against Garcia, mind you - but good enough that he's as credible a foe as can be scrounged up for Mikey at present, and certainly the most deserving (if not outright best) that is properly ranked in the org whose hardware Garcia holds.

Sorry IB, but anyone who struggles with or loses to Gradovich isn't world class. That Billy Dib fight showed me both those guys were journeyman level at best.

Try reading more carefully. I didn't say Aalan Martinez is world class. I said he is a decent semi-prospect (on the verge of becoming a professional full-time prospect tester) and not a bum or someone who on paper 'doesn't belong in the ring' with a top ranked contender as their lead-in to a big shot.

I read what you wrote and I read the post you were responding to. I agree with the person who discredited Martinez, because like I said to lose to Gradovich, a journeyman level fighter at best, shows to me that you don't deserve to fight against a top contender, let alone be the scalp someone collects to get the #1 spot.

I mean Martinez only has 3 wins against people with winning records, the rest are literally filled with people who are 0-2, 1-1, 0-3, 15-24, and etc. It is a joke really.

    Gradovich a journeyman?

He is an unbeaten champion! (even if Dib was a sitting duck

Cruz will be a good fight, deal with it...now a Juanma fight is a bit more high profile, but he really hasnt done **** since Salido.
