Barker is not an expirienced corner man. His first ever fight was this one! Cut him some slack.

If you started working as a plumber i wouldnt expect you to do a blinding job on my shower on your very first job.

Im pretty sure you have a soft spot for Barker.

He fell way short of doing a blinding job, he fell way short of doing an acceptable job.

He shouldn't have been making the decisions in the first place. He failed to spot DA's broken left hand, then made a stupid decision.

If Purdy knew about the hand it would have given him a boost and he could have adjusted to take advantage of it.

It was a mess up. Let's call it what it is.

If a mate called me with water flooding all over his kitchen, the best thing I could do for him would be to come round to his to help with the clean up and refer him to a more qualified plumber to fix the problem.

 

This wasn't the boxing equivalent of plumbing in a shower though, was it?

This was the plumbing championship of the world, against one of the very best plumbers around, and Barker couldn't tell one end of a pipe wrench from the other. He never even noticed that Alexander had left half his tools at home.

I would have let Barker change the plastic U bend under my sink first, just to see if he knew what he was doing before letting him loose on a shower.

 

Devon was using one hand for a good few rounds and purdy was still not coming on strong and was actually taking a beating, it dont matter that the shots werent hurting him they would still be having an affect taking so many over and over again. Cant blame Barker at all for pulling Purdy out knowone wants to see their pal getting made to look a bit silly even though he was showing massive heart

Are we sure Barker didn't notice the hand ? If he didn't then that really decides how he did in his corner debut

 

If he did spot it, then he didn't know how to press home the advantage. Or maybe he did but just couldn't motivate Purdey.

Either way the whole thing was a fiasco. At least Barker had the sense to put a stop to it before it got too bad. Nobody is going to look back and say Barker ruined Purdey by letting him take a 12 round pointless one sided pasting.

 

Trigger happy towel throwers at Matchroom. They cant wait to get their 5 seconds of fame throwing it in.

Always happens when they go over to America with people saying they have little chance of winning. If you ask me they decide all this before the fight that if their fighter starts getting showed up, throw the towel in. I can understand any trainer throwing a towel in if a fighter is receiving unnecessary punishment. But in this case then Billy Nelson should of thrown the towel in in the Gonzalez fight when Gonzalez had Burns all over the place.

At the end of the day, they are on away ground, odds stacked against them, big pay day and they cant wait to throw the towel in at the first glimpse of an opportunity.

Kell Brook would never beat Alexander in the US. Never. Deep down Matchroom know it, they can say what they like as supporters of Brook, but the fact is, I never get the impression that Matchroom are fully behind their fighters going into fights. They always have that seed of doubt, but as a promotion they shouldn't be making that clear to the public. Why the **** would you do that? They should be fully behind their fighters! Win, lose or draw! But I don't think they are, its almost like they have got money on the other fighter.

They are more interested in protecting their fighters (nothing wrong with that) and protecting their image. They see Purdy taking a boxing lesson over 7 better than taking one over 12. They can "re-build" Purdy and use that experience as a selling point for future domestic fights and make out it did no damage....Although they wont show any of that fight in video packages. As it didnt happen. :hey

Was the right time for me, Purdy wasn't knocking Alexander out and the body shots were going to take their toll eventually. Alexander didn't get out of second gear, Purdy went with the old Joe Gallagher style, hands up, march forward in straight lines, throw punches, except he hardly threw anything until he got right up close to Alexander.

 

The plan is to pull them out of there before it damages the fighters image to much. They did the same with Gavin Rees, but he was taking quite a beating after a fairly good start. That one was understandable.

Its all this image protection bull**** now though. Matchroom are trying to prevent any Hatton-esk losses from happening again because they will see that as damaging of the image, meaning they cant hype up said fighter like they do do and be taken seriously. If they can get Purdy out in the 7th, rather than the 12th, they will take the opportunity. Which they did.
