Yes but it seems HBO are trying to avoid anything other than American v American fights at the moment, as annoying as that is it's probably what will give them the best ratings.
Yes, it is bull**** but it was in the contract. The only chance Tarver has is Dawson being so unispired to fight him again that he barely trains. Remember Malignaggi basically shutout NDou, plus a knockdown, then he only got an SD in the agreed upon rematch. Messed up hand or not Paulie could have done better.
Tarver had a rematch clause in the agreement for the first fight. And with Dawson looking to get a big payday vs Hopkins or Calzaghe, if he loses the belts, he loses a big bargaining tool when it comes to negotiating shares of the purse. I dont blame Dawson at all for this one...as for Tarver, can ya really blame him? The rematch clause allows him what will probably be his last chance at a title and a big payday. Tho its not the ideal matchup for either man...I cant say I really blame either man at all...
Thats a good point and a possibilty. But still cant see this being compeitive unless Dawson really drops the ball.
Ok if it was in the contract.... I dont see it happening any different, its way to easy to discourage Tarver (which Dawsons speed will do every time) and once Tarver starts to get discouraged, all the fight leaves him. It was such a letdown the way Tarver faught, especially after all the **** he talked prior. Glen Johnson is fuming cuz of this fight
It was in the contract and mentioned many times already, also at least Tarver is trying to avenge a loss. Isn't he like undefeated in rematches?, Harding, Jones and Johnson. Too bad he didn't get a rematch with Hopkins but that should make this fight interesting even though we know Tarver will most likely lose again. There was nothing mentioned from Calzaghe either so this isn't a horrible fight after all.
Sigh , Tarver is initiating the rematch clause , I would hardly say that dawson is "giving him" a rematch ... how many of you fools are gonna keep posting about this as if it was Dawson's doing?
As sad as it is, Tarver had a rematch clause. However, in general HBO have had 'bad' experiences with anything else than US vs US fights in recent years. When they fight eachother HBO can keep the fairytale image of American fighters, but when they meet the best non-Americans the image often seems to go to shambles. Seems they would rather live in make-believe land than put on good fights.
he has to...they won't show it on tv...so he is 26...get tarver out easy and move on to the next fight...i can't believe tarver is forcing this rematch
