Well, who is else is there? And like said before, at least he's giving the guy a chance to avenge his loss.

Prophet, I have to agree with the way you're seeing things both about Dawson and Cloud.

That the rematch didn't have to be immediate is a really important detail nobody else seems to want to address. As you know, the IBF will not hesitate to strip a fighter- so why Chad would willingly drop another title to fight a rematch that didn't have to be fought right now is maddening to me as a boxing fan considering he could've had 2 belts by now if his team had played their cards better. He's on the verge of being back at square one, particularly if HBO doesn't pony up the cash to lure Hopkins or Calzaghe into a fight with Chad on the back end of the 2 fight contract.

Cloud's an exciting fighter who deserves more exposure- why neither one of the networks have gotten their talons in him yet is still a mystery to me.

Gotta remember this is Dawson's first fight on HBO and so they feel the need to build him up against someone before getting him in with the very top men. And HBO prefer to put their fighters against 'names' rather than the best fight option - for instance how the hell can they be favouring Taylor v Wright over Taylor v Froch?!!???!?!? It is also no coincidence Kellerman mentioned Dawson in the immediate ring interview with Calzaghe after the Jones fight. Dawson has accepted a 2 fight HBO deal and Calzaghe has been offered the same number of fights so you can see what HBO wants to happen later in the year. Only thing now is who Calzaghe would fight 1st if he did accept the deal and who would even begin to generate enough revenue. Oh Bernaaaard...........Or maybe more likely that Calzaghe rejects a 2 fight deal and may only be tempted back if HBO throw enough money at him for Dawson's 2nd contracted fight later in the year

Froch is a paper champ that struggled to win a vacated belt over an overrated prospect and has absolutely zero wins against any top fighters. Winky vs Taylor was one of the best fights of 2006. The problem with your what saying is that a rematch with Tarver doesn't build Dawson up at all, in fact in all reality it will diminish his profile if he drops a 2nd belt and avoids another live mandatory to take a rematch that he's not obligated to take immediately. Calzaghe and/or Hopkins aren't going to be signing multi-fight contracts with HBO. They're old and on the verge of retirement. They want PPV fights against PPV fighters, something Dawson is not. Instead of being the unified WBC and IBF LHW champ, he's the guy that dropped both belts to fight 2 easy fights against old man Tarver whose been "shot" since Bernard in what looks like a money grab and in the process ducked 2 scary guys (they get scarier when guys like Dawson do things like this) and avoided rematching the more deserving Glen Johnson. That's a hellava lotta spin that HBO will need to push to reverse that kind of bad rep and make him a PPV fighter. What I don't get is why not Tavaris Cloud? Are they (HBO) protecting both fighters? They need to just let the fighters decide who's champ and let the fans decide who they like and give the hype machine, a la Jermain Taylor, a rest.

From what I've heard, the rematch does not need to be an immediate rematch.

By virtue of doing this now, rather than later, he will in all likelihood by stripped of his IBF belt for not fighting his mandatory, Tavaris Cloud. If that happens, that will be 2 belts (WBC, IBF) he's vacated in order to fight Antonio Tarver twice.

Glen Johnson beat Dawson, need to see a rematch, but Dawson will never fight him again.

Firstly, I agree with what your saying regarding Tarver. I have no interest in seeing Tarver-Dawson - I was just stating what seems to be going through the heads of the decision makers at HBO with regard to how they view 'name' fighters as more attractive. As for Froch, I'm no big fan but he just won the WBC belt in a superb fight whatever the quality of the opposition, and Jermain is now the mandatory challenger for that belt. Otherwise what was the point of the eliminator against Lacy!?!? It just points to towards Froch-Talyor not Winky who has been out of action for over a year and a half and is pricing himslef out of every possible fight. HBO's reasoning on that is indicative of why we're getting Dawson-Tarver

I hear what you're saying. But HBO just made a big ol' statement that they're not going to be putting on mismatches anymore and then they give us this? No doubt Taylor should fight Froch for the belt first, but they can do that on BAD or in England for all I care. The more competitive fight would be against Winky. Winky may have been inactive for awhile but people need to recognize that he's only lost once in his past 14 fights in 8 years and that was to the current #4 P4P fighter in the world at 10 pounds above his natural weight class. The guy deserves the benefit of the doubt. And the first fight between Winky and Taylor was far more competitive than this Dawson/Tarver bs.

Since this Tarver fight does not have to be an immediate and he's doing it right now anyway, that really says he's not interested in pursuing a fighter with either Hopkins or Calzaghe and just biding his time waiting for them to move on from boxing. With HBO behind him and all the old guys gone, he can effectively control the division and cherry pick his opponents. Sucks for boxing, because I think both Tavaris Cloud and Adrian Diaconu are guys that deserve a chance to show what they can do.
