Qiu Xiao Jun vs. Jason Cooper, 10 rounds @ super bantamweight

 

"Nugget" Cooper has been chasing Jun around the ring all night, targeting the smaller man with his jab and looking to hammer him against the ropes. Jun has been using footwork and slick upper body movement to make Cooper miss or graze and countering him with left hooks and shuttle-launch rights on the jaw.

 

Jun beats Cooper via UD to defend his WBC Youth World super bantamweight title (1st defense) and WBC Asia Council Continental super bantamweight title (2nd).

Jimmy Lennon Jr. announces the judge's scores one by one, followed by a young Chinese woman (doubling as the CCTV5 ringside correspondent) translating each in turn.

They sounded to be close, in the 96-94 range, but the audio sucks.

 

Yang Xing Xin vs. Sirimongkol Singwancha, 12 rounds @ welterweight

 

This is for the WBC Asia Council Continental welterweight title, fourth defense of Singwancha.

 

Round 1

Overhand rights by Singwancha, meeting the nearly six foot tall Chinese man in the center of the ring and fencing in past his jab with a straighter, harder one. Xin is circling out and jabbing at Singwancha's forehead softly, doubling and tripling on the back-step. Xin tries a 1-2 and is countered with a flush right hand up top, whereupon Singwancha begins to bang the body.

Round 2

Singwancha is sluicing in, using his own jab from the high guard to knock aside or cut through Xin's, and landing right hands up top. Singwancha keeps backing Xin up to the ropes and flurrying on the body. Xin reaches both of his long arms out at full extension, pushing at Singwancha with them and occasionally snapping a left jab from past the elbow. 1-2 by Xin while stepping wide off the ropes, countered.

Round 3

Lead uppercut by Singwancha catches Xin on the outside, breaching his defenses through a gap in his elbows even as his guard is held up. Flush jab by Singwancha, snapping Xin's head back. Long jabs pawed out by Xin as he circles in either direction, trying desperately to control the distance and tossing more straight combos but never planting his feet for fear of getting countered hard by the always-in-position and leveraged Singwancha.

Round 4

Singwancha is stepping in with lead rights to the body, jerking his head back or to the side to dodge Xin's jab and then firing his own up into Xin's line of vision. Body shots by Singwancha, keeping low, finishing with straight rights up top when Xin backs straight out. Flurries by Xin as he tracks left and right to keep from getting trapped on the ropes. Singwancha adjusts his pace, reining up so that Xin is left shadowboxing, then moves in and hits the body when Xin regroups.

Round 5

Singwancha is following Xin and rolling his jab, sticking the lead right on the body. Xin dances backward on his toes and tries bending in with a jab. Singwancha leans slightly to his side and slams his own jab home on Xin's nose, making him blink and then retreat. Xin is circling away, losing steam, throwing more jabs and 1-2s to deter Singwancha and taking flurries on the body willingly.

This is man versus boy.

 

Round 6

Long left hook by Xin, actually scoring nicely with it. Singwancha comes right back with a lunging right hand, backing Xin up. Singwancha is hitting Xin on the front-foot with the line drive 1-2 on the face and swatting his jab aside with backhanded lefts. Body shots by Singwancha. The ref takes a point from Singwancha for what looked to be a shot on the solar plexus. No prior warning. Xin leans forward and puts some left and right uppercuts together, folding his long arms tightly up against his chest in between volleys. Singwancha welcome the brawl on the inside, eating several uppercuts but landing at the higher clip with his short right hand breaking through Xin's gloves.

9-9 (10-9 Singwancha minus the deduction) - but it was also Xin's best round so you could maybe argue 10-8 if you were reaching for the kid.
