he just beat a shot verson of roy.

roys footwork was bad in the fight every time joe through punches he never sliped or moved back and countered like in his prime.

the only time he did it was in the second round.

honestly, it does hurt the pride when you support a fighter your whole life and then you come on an international board and have your opinion and that of the locals turned upside down by 'foreigners' who see someone like calzaghe as something else entirely.

for some people itøs a defensive mechanism in retaliation to that.

We don't know if Joe would have beat Roy in his prime, but we do know that it would have been a competitive fight. No version of Roy would have just wiped Calzaghe out. That just does not happen to a fighter of Joes caliber.

Joe has the style to beat Roy in his prime in my oppinion, but we will never know for sure. Roy was special but he never dared to be great until it was too late.

    Sad but true.

I agree, Joe has everything to beat a prime roy, But it would be very close.

i'd pick roy to take any fighter of recent time P4P.

roy jones and floyd are probably the most gifted fighters since whittaker.

I doubt that many would actually beleive this. Joe is great...no doubt about it...but like the BHop fight it was clear that Joe would have even greater difficulties with a prime Nard or Roy. Beating them was great anyway but keeping things in perspective one can easily see that Joe's advantages over the two American greats were clearly his youth, speed and reflexes...all attributes to being younger and in better physical condition. I will Say that Prime for Prime Joe is tough for anyone.

Mayweather should learn something from Roy.

Floyd you still have a lot left in the tank, but if you don't use it, it might not be there when you finally decide to return.

but this is where the pandora's box opens....

"a fighter of joe's calibre" is relative to who he fought.

how can you isolate his calibre without a prime world class fighter on his record?

Name the PRIME world class fighter on Roy's record, Toney was out of shape and Bernard was green.

    I was rooting for Roy.

come on thats just an excuse.

would you take fernando vargas off tito trinidad's resume because vargas was maybe too young when they fought?

and you havent answered it regarding calzaghe. you've only flipped the question...

There is no question about that.

But did you feel like Jones was shot after the first two rounds of the fight????

All I am saying is that Joe and Roy are about equals at any given point in time.

I thik that the Lacy and Kessler wins are equivalent to Toney and Hopkins at least, Even though Toney and Bernard are much bigger names and ring legends.

Because the afore-mentioned were young undefeated fighters at the top of their games, and Calzaghe pretty much destroted them.
