TBH, these guys are a couple of inches in height away from being legally disabled. At what point does it become sick and twisted for us to pay any amount to have them fight eachother?

Yafai going abroad to pick up a $40k cheque is shocking. Once Eddie takes ~20% and his manager takes ~15% he then has to pay his trainer and for his team to fly over and put them up in hotels etc. I would say he then has to pay tax, but I doubt he'll clear his $12k tax free allowance for the year. Poor little lad. Bless.

Is it news to you that more than 90 percent of the money in boxing is made by less than 10 percent of boxers? To make $10K for one night’s work isn’t exactly chicken feed ... do that six times a year and you’re making more than the average U.S. household ... what do you think people without college degrees make?

What do you think 4- and 6- round guys make? Do you think the promoter is going to make enough on this card from TV and ticket sales to cover all those purses? Should they pay more and just take bigger losses?

Say he fights 4 times a year, thats 32 grand - expenses... he is in 0.1% best boxers in the world, absolute joke, his job involves risking his life, hellish weight cuts... for this pathetic reward, 99% of accountants earn over 32k a year

Let’s say he takes home half the purse for one night’s work ... that’s still have the median income for an entire family for a year in his country.

So whether you think it’s worth it or not, he does. And that’s all that matters. But some people like to sit on their couches and decide what others should or should not do. Makes them feel better about themselves.

 

To me it came off as ridiculing guys who give their all for this sport.

EDIT: Last night I was at a club show. Guaranteed no one made $10K, probably not half that (maybe one or two did, 8-round main event, couple of sixes and some fours).

I’d say maybe two or three guys on the card at most have a chance at going somewhere and making decent money. A couple will make ‘opponent money’ at best (which can be pretty fair). The rest will never get beyond picking up maybe a month’s rent for a single fight, if that — they all may have hopes that they’ll break through, but at this level it wasn’t $$$ that made them do it. It was because they have that something in them that drives them to step between those ropes and face another fighter.

But every single one came to fight. None took an easy way out or tried to cover up and coast. They all honored the sport and they drew a packed house in a small makeshift arena. It was everything I like about boxing and I have nothing but respect for those who take the risks.
