Say good bye to the latest Great British Hope because slappy is almost as doomed as Lockett. Almost. Slappy might survive 6 rounds. Then he's done. The problem for slappy is that unlike his other opponents Pavlik actual wants to go to war. Kessler ran like a nervous ***** when the heat was on even though he admitted in the post fight that slappy wasn't a hard puncher. Hopkins was too old and Lacy was always a joke. Fortunately for Kelly, Joe is as delusional as his fans so he actually thinks he can win which means the fight should happen.
I really love Pavlik and love watching him fight, but he doesn't have a stylistic chance in hell against Calzaghe. He's potentially worse off than Kessler was.
You're a disgrace to common sense. How many times have we seen a fighter like Pavlik lose to Calzaghe? How many fighters similar or even close to Calzaghe has Pavlik faced?
If that's your stance, then sport a Calzaghe avatar. Maybe you can find one of him hitting a bike tire with a tac hammer. I know that's not fair, I actually like him, it's just his supporters that get under my skin.
calzaghe all the way...How can a figher who has defended his title for the last decade be an underdog for any fight, not to mention for a fight against an unproven boxer. (Pavlik hasn't even made a single title defence yet)
Unless Mr Pavlik can produce a amazing amount of cash and gain a couple of stone in weight, this fight aint going to happen.
:yep mother****ers won't listen though. say what you want about kessler but he does possess a fine jab and look at how expertly calzaghe took it away and schooled him from the outside. man i love how these guys make kessler about to be a one dimensional robot when the description sits perfectly with a rather ill looking, current american "look how real i am" middlweight champ.
Too bad he doesn't have any balls and guts to go with it. Pavlik is 10X the man Kessler is. Pavlik wont run when slappy has his hissy fits. And Kelly's jab wont be slappy's problem. The right hand lead followed by brutal left hooks to the side of his head will KO slappy. :good
I love Pavlik, but he has no chance in this fight...very bad style match up for Kelly. Calzaghe will fight him from every angle and confuse a straight forward fighter like Kelly.
I can follow your analysis and absolutely agrees with it.....in theory. But there are problems: 1) Most likely Pavlik will not have the time to get his whole body weight behind his power punches. Kessler is reasonably quick but it wasn't enough to fire off his best shots with his whole body weight behind. I thought pre-fight that Kess would do exactly that and it never happened due to Calzaghe being slippery and disciplined. On the positive side Calzaghe can probably not reach that level of discipline one more time. Point being that Pavlik needs to catch him only once and then follow-up by going all-out. 2) Pavlik winning the jab contest also is not a given. We have seen that Calzaghe is strong in that department too. Calzaghe's jabs are not that hard but they are delivered in abundance and play the role of disturbing the opponents rhythm. In brief I beleive that Pavlik chance is to catch Calzaghe, not necessarily with a lucky punch, but with a hard enough shot to put Calzaghe off balance momentarily. Then Pavlik should go all-out with all the risks that comes with it. He chance is to beat Calzaghe on raw physique. A "chess game" Pavlik will loose any day.
