this fight is in japan so they are going to give the close rounds to the champion and if yamanka is winning these championship rounds he has this fight in the bags imo i really want moreno to win

Moreno has always been every bit as good as even the Panamanian press bills him to be.

A Split Decision in a Moreno fight in his opponents' back yard?

    Shocking. Unthinkable.

    To break it down
    First 4 ultra close
Rounds 5,6,8, 9 were clearly Moreno's only a fool would argue
Rounds 7,10,11 seemed to be Yamanaka's
Round 12 was a toss up

Some have given Moreno the 5 close rounds rounds, no argument there though it will explain some of the complaints folk are having on twitter.

I think the open scoring really made the fight better. Moreno had to press more after knowing he was down by 2 points from two judges and succeeded to have the two judges scoring even after 8. Knowing the score, Yamanaka exerted his will in the final 4 rounds to win the fight. Without opened scoring I think Yamanaka would have played it safe and perhaps lose the fight or at least a conservative looking last 4 rounds.

I'll admit I've long been a supporter of open scoring and I think this fight was a great example of it working properly. Tends to be a lot cases of it working well in Japan (where they use it for OPBF and Japanese title fights as well as WBC ones). Sadly some are opposed to it on the basis that it ruins a fight but it can also improve a fight, as it did here.

I know that in some cases you'll have a guy be conservative in the final rounds when they know they are in the lead, Takuma Inoue sort of did that against Mark Anthony Geraldo...but we've had that anyone with recent Mayweather fights (among others). IMO with good scoring open scoring can help a fight, with awful judging the open scoring just ****es the fans off.
