Any one got a story behind this young bloke. I noticed he beat some decent opposition in his last 2 fights, TKO Kalakoda and a TKO over Pradeep Sing. I watched Kalakoda in his robbery against Dawson and he is a walk up tough customer.....must have been a good win for Yao Yi Ma to put him away with a TKO. Yao Yi Ma This content is protected + This content is protected + This content is protected = 11 Do we have a decent prospect here?
While I don't want to cry over spilled milk I'll say that if I wanted I could have gone the full 12.My reasoning was that I was behind on points anyways and needed a ko for the win so infact gave my corner the nod to throw the towel inn. Yao is a talent though very awkward customer and hard puncher with a very high work rate.I sparred with him beforhand and had the better of the session I felt and expected to win convincingly so I was really surprised by his punch output and performance Sunday arvo.Someone to watch out for I reckon!!
Interesting to see the 9-1 boxer Yao Yi Ma dominating durable Virgil, while padded up 36-3 Dawson goes life & death with Virgil twice getting hometown decisions.
Ma vs. Dawson would be interesting, but doubt it'll ever happen for obvious reason. Ma vs. current Oz champ Tongia is in the works.
Good on ya Virgil, nice summary....keen to see Yao for myself sometime in the future....hopefully he gets to Perth. Doubt if you remember but I spoke to you after the Dawson fight (last one) and people were either beside themselves with drunken gusto that Dawson won or in absolute sober disbelief at the result, I was in the sober camp. You took that result with much humility, what are you future plans? Would you come back and destroy Dawson if given the chance?
Props to you Virgil........a breath of fresh air with a figther being honest about their own performance. Good luck mate in future bouts.
Yao Yi was certainly well & truly in control time: 1:42 | referee: Brian McMahon | judge: John Cauchi 70-62 | judge: Bernie McMahon 69-64 | judge: Max Murphy 69-64 BTW, As you might've seen in Boxrec, his birth name is Yao-I Ma. His connections requested his ring name be as pronounced....hence Yao Yi Ma
I think he had 15 amutear fights only losing one or two, & his pro loss was a roberry he should of got the decision. I've promoted him a couple of times, I've also sparred him a few times you know your alive when you sparr him.
