I agree, this seems a bizarre time to jump ship. Yarde has been fighting on BT, now TNT sports, they've spent the time and money getting their audience invested in him. They got him through the Lyndon Arthur debacle. He can't have that many fights left, is any other promoter going to commit to a multi fight deal? I guess if he's doing this someone has, but it does seem a bizarre one.

 

Going on Warren's comments last night, it sounds like only Yarde stood in the way of signing the Buatsi fight, and then Yarde declares himself free? Sounds like Boxxer will do the same deal but pay Yarde some kind of guarantee over and above, to get it done - hope he's had good legal advice as Frank doesn't tend to back down...

Presumably he's not done this without being offered a good deal by someone and I think you're right that it won't be Matchroom so that really only leaves Boxxer. They are lacking name fighters with a following, does Antony bring that? BT/TNT have been building him for years, but do Sky want to repeat the process? Feed him puddings and go on a 'journey' to another go at the title? Or are the hedging their bets with Buatsi? Maybe he's not tied to them, I've lost track to be honest.

I just hope Antony's getting good advice and his lawyer isn't a man who has read almost 2 chapters ot 'The Dummy's guide to contract law' and a name rhyming with Bundy.

Actually he loses a lot more than you may think if you Google it. The most entertaining find though was his missus having to pay almost a quarter of a million pounds to builders she stiffed on payment.

I remember a newspaper feature on Warren describing him as "litigious" many years ago. Willing to bet he's got a better record than most fighters he takes on!

 

Yarde Buatsi has to be next. Then win draw or lose he should move up to cruiser.

 

If he's signing with Boxxer moving up to Cruiser could explain his value to them. They have several guys they could match him with, maybe they plan their own mini tournament?

 

Just thinking on this and Boxxers lack of headline attractions. I don't see the value in poaching Yarde for one fight, but what if they were to tell buatsi and Yarde that they'd build the fight over 12 months with them alternating headlining and building the fight on sky. Would Buatsi do that whilst waiting for his shot? There's probably more money in a big O2 UK ppv if it's well marketed.

Otherwise I just don't get why this works for Sky or Yarde sufficiently for the former to outbid Queensberry and the latter to risk long time in court

 

It's bizarre timing for Yarde

The entire time he's been with QP they have been at best the 2nd show in town.

Now they are the place to be, with potential unlimited money on offer in Saudi, and his style certainly fits the mould that the Saudis want.

And now he decides to go elsewhere.
