Yarde v Smith Jnr

Excellent match up, really hope the fight gets made. I was one who used to give Yarde pelters for fighting dumpling after dumpling, but I could see him going straight into a big fight like this as his next one. He's had a few defeats, the 0 has gone, the shackles are off, and I think his self belief and confidence will be at an all time high after his performance against Beterbiev. A perfect example of a fighter's reputation being enhanced in defeat. I make him a slight favourite against Joe Smith but it's a fight he could lose too, but I don't think another loss on his record matters much at this stage of his career, especially in a fan friendly fight like this.

Clearly had no intention of making the Smith Jr fight. Not sure where that came from.

I thought Yarde was supposed to return in a “big fight in June / July” according to Frank Warren.

It’s a shame as Yarde’s best win is over a domestic level Lyndon Arthur.

Why? Because I’m disappointed that Yarde will likely be up against an opponent on short-notice after putting up a great performance against Beterbiev and Frank Warren stating he wanted to make Yarde Smith Jr for the summer?

I’d like to see Yarde against the winner of Buatsi Azeez, although I don’t think either promoter will be willing to work together to make that happen.

 

I was excited by the prospect of seeing Yarde vs Smith jr as well. I did wonder whether Smith jr’s brother getting shot dead at the end of May would affect the fight getting made though. The reports I read were that Smith jr was badly affected by it, so maybe that affected the fight getting made.
I read somewhere that Yarde could be fighting for the European title that Azeez vacated. Hopefully that fight comes off if the Smith jr fight isn’t possible.

 

How do you know they had no intention? Did they run all offers and negotiations by you first?

I don't even disagree with you about Yarde, but we all know you add a pro Matchroom and anti Queensbury spin on more or less every post you make and it certainly is becoming insufferable. You're f*cking relentless with it.
