I think he'd have power if he sat down on his punches and set them up. He doesn't seem interested. Seems like he just wants a title fight, make some money and quit. He definitely has the skills if he wanted to dedicate himself to his craft.
Man I really don't like him. He's like Larry Holmes, if Larry Holmes could only throw 20 punches per round and generally just sucked ass.
yeah he has tallent and instincts, but he is definately boring. He made Smith look bad and he could have made him look even worse with a higer work rate
He is fast, gotta give him that. But he either don't have any power, or just don't put anything on his punches. That may be the case, that he just don't put any force into his shots, cause he is a big muscular guy who must have more power than he shows, hiding in there, somewhere. He also seems to be overly cocky, and he comes across as being unwilling to take advice in order to improve. I doubt he'll ever get very far, though........But you never know. He seems to be another fast slick fighter like Eddie Chambers, but seems to be in better condition than Chambers, and Johnson looks to be have power, but he just don't utilize it.
That Larry Holmes comparison is bull****. This dude could not even stand in Larry's shadow. Larry Holmes would have not have gone neck n' neck with a 36 year old Terry Smith. No offense to Terry Smith of course. As far as I'm concerned Smith nearly took that fight.
His jab is very nice. He landed some wicked shots, but the guy couldn't punch through a wet tissue which is why Smith didn't go down.
I'm smart.. I switched channel before the Johnson fight. I enjoy the Dachinyan-Maldonado replay at SHO2. After the Klitz- boring Fiasco, I swear to myself not to watched anymore heavyweghts.:happy
Man, apparently I wasn't the only guy that wanted Johnson to get his ass handed to him in that fight. It's one thing if Bernard Hopkins is arrogant, but I think this guy legitimately believes he will be the heavyweight champion of the world. This guy is a joke. Put him in there with anyone in the top 15 and he gets killed.
You can see he can punch, and he gets good leverage, but he's always so defensive he's pulling away in the midst of a connect. Seems he doesn't like being hit. When he decided to throw, he actually hurt Smith several times, but instead of following up, he immediately begins to back peddle. No wonder he only has 3 KOs. He needs a new trainer, who will make him decide if he wants to be a real fighter or not. It's a shame. He reminds me of an even lazier Reddick Bowe.
Not only that, he didn't throw that many of 'em either. I thought the other guy should have gotten the nod, frankly. At least he was throwing some punches!!! atsch
He threw enough to see he can fight..if he wants to. Seriously, by round 8 I was thinking of all kinds of reasons to give the fight to Smith, but it's so damn obvious that Johnson has really good potential. He hurt Smith with 2-3 left hooks, a couple straight rights and he started swelling his eyes with jabs. It's obvious that he has the wrong trainer. He needs to work on adding more tools to his arsenal, and moving without running. He has good enough movement to not have to run, and at 26, he's too young to be laying on the ropes like that. With the right trainer, he wouldn't be so lax in the ring walking around with his hands in his pockets. His current trainer hasn't convinced him that he will never be a serious contender unless he devotes himself to developing his skills and learns to ACT like a fighter. I'll bet Teddy Atlas ran over to him after the fight trying to talk him into letting him train him.
