Nope he defintly is. Penn is a GREAT fighter. GSP gave him a throough beat down but this has now been put into disrepute because of the vaseline on his back which of course helps immensely against a guy with a suprerb ground game as BJ. I welcome a rubber match to put this to bed finally.
Yep, let's just have them fight again. Otherwise Penn will spend the rest of his life calling GSP a cheat and claiming he never should have lost. I look forward to seeing him get destroyed again. Boy, the UFC Primetime for this one should be entertaining. 30 minutes of BJ complaining about the vaseline.
As a fan of BJ Penn I don't want to see this fight happen. However, GSP is growing on me and I can totally understand if he would want to take the rematch. I must **** him off so much that such a dominant win is tainted.
He looked like he was about to cry when he got into the ring. That was not BJ Penn in that ****ing ring. Do I think he can beat GSP? No but he sure has hell can give it a better go that that **** performance he gave last time.
The BJ that recently fought Sherk and Stevenson did not show up to fight imo. Nobody can tell me that BJ Penn trainned his best or gave his best against GSP. The man looked like ****. I don't want you to think that i'm like Chimba and making excuses for Penn The man behaved like a **** and I wnated GSP to whoop his ass, but i don't and can't believe that we saw the best of BJ Penn. I wnat BJ to show up in tip top condition and then get his ass whooped so GSP can give the finger to everyone who slagged him off.:good
:yep Where was the fire in his eyes? That just was'nt the best of BJ Penn and i don't care what anyone say's.
B.J. did show up in top condition and was more motivated then he was in his career. If he fought some stiff and kicked his ass you would say that's the BJ wre use to. GSP made him look like he didn't train and made him look like he didn't belong there but you wouldn't realize that.
wrong. I read that after the 2nd round, the commission wiped the vaseline off GSP's back with a towel, and after that they stayed in the corner to prevent them from rubbing his back after applying vaseline to his face. And GSP was only really taking the fight to the ground in rounds 3 and 4. In those rounds its pretty much guaranteed that there was no vaseline on GSP's shoulders and back Its just sour grapes from BJ's team but GSP is willing to prove the doubters wrong. The vaseline had no effect on the outcome.
The facts are that GSP's team did not cheat. They applied vaseline to GSP's face and then rubbed his shoulders and back to loosen him up, without adding more vaseline. Because of that a little excess vaseline may have gotten on GSP's back but it was wiped off by the commission as of the 2nd round and it is no more cheating than an unintentional low blow or than a fighter putting too much vaseline on his face and the ref telling his corner to wipe it off.
If I remember correctly, BJ didn't even hit the ground at all, or at the very least until very late in the 1st round. St. Pierre was already going to be slippery for the rest of the fight once he broke a sweat.. Nothing really worth complaining about.. BJ talked all that trash, came out to Hawaiian chants, and quite on his stool. He won't put in the same effort at training that St. Pierre is willing to put in, so he will never be as good as St. Pierre.
If BJ wasn't capable of getting into shape for this fight, the biggest of his career, possibly the biggest in the history of MMA, and one where a victory would solidify him as the P4P best in MMA right now, then he's obviously incapable of getting into shape.
I was all for BJ! Him and GSP are my two favorites but I leaned towards Penn for this fight. I thought GSP would win, but was pulling for BJ all the way. He is just naturally better at 155lbs, we know this. He carries too much weight at 170lbs and it slows him down. Just look at how fast he was when he first came into the UFC, and then compare it to how slow he looks at 170lbs. BUT to say he wasn't in shape or didn't train is bull****. He looked awful, I know. He looked like he wasn't trying to win. He looked tired after the first round. He looked that way because of who he was fighting though. GSP made him look like ****.
For the past several days I have been reading statements made by St. Pierre and Greg Jackson about our fight on January 31. St. Pierre claims that he is "not a cheater" and that he and Greg Jackson will have "no problem with a rematch in the summer of 2009." To the untrained eye the grease might not look like much, but every grappler knows the effect that it has. Being able to apply your submissions and sweeps or just being able to hold on to your opponent to defend yourself from being hit is absolutely critical! There is a reason why you are not allowed to put grease anywhere on your body except for the area around your eyes. Because of the grease applied to St.Pierre's Body the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s executive director, Keith Kizer has stated that the Penn-St. Pierre fight "definitely wasn’t fair." I hereby accept George St. Pierre and Greg Jackson's challenge for a fight in the summer 2009. Lets call Dana now and set it up. - BJ Penn
