Martinez by UD or late KO/TKO! Too much skill and quickness for the slower but more stronger Pavlik! If Bhop who isn't know for quickness was able to out maneuver and beat Pavlik to the punch then a more athletic and faster Martinez should be able to do the same and more! Even JT in the first fight was to fast for Pavlik until he ran out of gas(ahead on all score cards)!! In the second JT fight Taylor was scared to death to get punched!!
I'm a big fan of Maravilla but don't see him beating Pavlik. He's slick but not slick enough to stay away from Pav's punching for the full 12. Both get hit, both take them well initially, but I see Martinez wearing down from trying to move too much; getting caught flush in the later rounds while his legs aren't as strong. I voted Pavlik by TKO/KO.
This is going to be like Pavlik v PW threads.... Anyway I will play along.....Martinez schools Pavlik via movement and workrate...Pavlik fails to get his shots off on target....Martinez looking great up to the 10th round where Pavlik will KHTFO :deal
If this fight happens, I expect Martinez to do really well in the first 4-6 rounds. Pavlik is not what you would call a slow-starter, but it is not uncommon for it to take 3-4 rounds for Pavlik to figure an opponent out. After about 4-5 rounds KP will start getting his offensive timing down, and his defene will sharpen up. About 6-7 rounds in KP will get into his "I'm knockin' you out" groove. Around that same time Sergio's 34 year old legs will start to betray him. Sometime shortly afterward Pavlik will stop Martinez. No fighter has ever answered the bell for the 10th round against Pavlik at 160. I honestly would not mind seeing Sergio Martinez be the first to do that. It won't go the distance.
Martinez has become a bit overrated, and I'm not sure what shape Pavlik is in these days. Hard to say.
Martinez might be baffling to Pavlik at first but for him to connect, he's got to be open too and Pavlik hits a frickload of a lot harder than Williams. Martinez is an excellent fighter, he could surprise us but I don't see how he could score enough on Pavlik to win the rounds without Pavlik hurting him.
I agree with you here. Only people that pick Martinez by KO are just hating on Kelly. It would be a great close battle. Could go either way. I just think it is big risk/low reward for Pavlik. Martinez by MD
That's a fair assessment. I could totally see Pav KHTFO after about the 9th or 10th. But goddammit, man! I sure am hoping he can last out those last few rounds and get the lop-sided nod.
You crack me up with this "answering the bell for the 10th round" jibberish. He isn;t quite what he used to be, regardless of what he may claim. And Martinez could just be the first. Someone has to be. Unless you think Pav is some legend who will carry that record forever...:rofl:rofl:rofl
