Sugar Ray woulda won that fight...I see Sugar edging out a close decision..They fought in 89' at 160 and it was close but Ray was no where near the fighter he head been in 82.

Tommy ate a couple good shots in the 11th and 12th but he still has his legs under him and was able to use his footwork to avoid more punishment. He had the power, jab, and reach that really kept Leonard honest and Sugar didn't know what do. In the 13th his load was just about shot and we saw what happened.

Give Leonard credit though, while he was not a huge puncher he still had good power, and he was a tremendous finisher. He took that fight, and ripped it away from Hearns.

Possibly sooner, as Leonard might not have waited as long this time.

Also, those people who are claiming Hearns was at his best at 154 are forgetting that Hearns was plagued by hand injuries at this time, and many people felt his power had actually lessened at this weight (hence guys like Benitez and Minchillo lasted the full 15 rounds with him).

Agreed 100%. IMO Hearns looked and fought the best I've ever seen him in that fight, but still lost anyway.

Leonard would have knocked him out again. Hearns was a great fighter, but a prime Leonard was a cut above.
