If prime Muhammad Ali fought every prime heavyweight in fantasy match-ups would he be undefeated?

Someone in another thread thinks so...I'm curious to see what all of you think.

i honestly think larry holmes, if he had eddie futch in his corner, would best ali. i also believe a fight with joe louis would have been close with joe possibly stopping ali late. sorry

I think Holmes and Tyson have the best chance in beating Ali

No, and neither would anybody else.

To suggest that anybody would have gone undefeated fighting every other all time great in their prime is ridiculous.

I personally find it terribly difficult, almost impossible, to favor anyone to stop Muhammad Ali considering the punchers he fought, the punches he took.

I agree. You CAN overrate even the best of fighters. It's the norm, probably.

Ali at his maximium best would be favourite over all other HWs at their best IMO.

Ya -- I was going to mention that too. Fighting at the level means taking some losses.

I didn't think the question posed would Ali beat all of those fighters if they all were operating in the same division at the same time. I thought it was, would Ali be favored over them in single match-ups. I voted yes.

i'm not saying you are right....but i have often stopped to think exactly the same about both of those....of all the champs those two make me wonder the most if they could have done it.

I think the TS means if you judge each fight individually as opposed to all these men in the same era & Ali having to beat all of them one after another at some stage.

Janitor you're getting the wrong idea. If he fought them all in a career it is likely he would lose a few...

on a H2H basis, 1 vs 1 should he be the favourite in every matchup? That is the question and i think the answer is, yes

Tyson and Lewis i see having the best shots, you probably see John L Sullivan and Choynsky as having the best shots..i dont think any of them will be favoured generally though

Frazier should be on the poll.

In that case there would be about four fighters that I would make even money, or so close to even money that it would make no difference.

If this was Joe Louis we were discussing instead, then I would be saying exactly the same thing.
