:huh actually, taylor was night and day better in the second fight than he was in the first fight with kelly. kelly can make adjustments.
He can make as many adjustments as he wants he still wouldnt be anything special, its not that simple.
i'm not saying that there is an atg somewhere in there...just that he can make some adjustments that would benefit him greatly.
Kelly is slow, uncoordinated, has poor footwork, is lacking 1 punch power and a good chin. More than anything he is a sign of the times. He clung to that belt for as long as he could.
Besides having a good cutman which is essential...I say Kelly should bring along some new perspectives to complement his training. I understand his respect for Loewe and that's great but someone else needs to be added if he wants to put his career backon track. It doesn't mean Loewe has to go but rather he wouldn't be as important in Pavlik's development and game plan. With Kelly's basic style, Manny Steward would probably suit him best. We often hear Loewe and Pavlik say they have games plans 1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4 to deal with anything that can happen in the fight, but the truth is Kelly never adapts to anything. To me, that means that Kelly needs more variables in his training. He can definitely improve lots if he wants to but in life..."If you keep doing the same things, the same way, chances are you keep getting the same results".
This is the **** us objective fans can't take when it comes to you Pavlik fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At NO point was Martinez "shell shocked" "discouraged" or even "nervous" during that fight!!!!!!!!!!! I was sitting next to a bunch of Pavlik fans and they were just shaking their heads and looked as if someone just stole their bikes!!!!! Although Pavlik had some good middle rounds he did not dominate, so stop talking as if he had some sort of chance!!! For you to say "Nothing like he was between rounds in the Williams fight" shows you're still a clown!!! I guarantee if you were to ask Martinez what was the harder fight he would say Williams hands down!!!! Pavlik may have caught Martinez 3 flush times during that entire fight!!!!!!!
well what steward has done with wlad is quite something considering wlad has gone from being found and getting sparked out to winning boring but very very effectively. and...if i'm not mistaken...that last paragraph sounds a little like the definition of insanity
no. he trained his ass off and got his ass kicked. what i'm referring to is how he trains. there is so much he can work on whether its cutting the ring off, doing work inside, using his left more effectively, working the body, etc. i'm saying if he doesnt work on this i don't see the results being much different. it very well could if a big punch lands but unless that stuff is emphasized, more time than not this fight ends the same way. u disagree?
First of all, you are a class act dbouziane. Way to man up without throwing around any excuses whatsoever. You gave full credit to the better man graciously. :good On topic: I agree with you that Kelly can work on the things he's good at. With some good matchmaking, he can make another great run. In my opinion-- as much as I hate to say this-- he needs to relocate. It's time for him to move out of Y-town and get his head right. He also needs to make some significant changes in his camp. Just getting a real cutman ain't enough. Lastly, he should move up to 168. He's just don't fit those shoes at 160 no more. :-(
I agree to certain extent!! The problem I have with people saying he "can work on" or things he "can change" is that most fighters are set in their ways/fighting style!! If you go back to Ricky Hatton vs Pacman; Hatton changed trainers and was taught new things but when he got in the ring he resorted to his old self!!! Miranda vs Bute they were saying that Miranda changed trainers and the commentators were saying Miranda was looking more focused and stopped the trash talk yet when he got hit by Bute he resorted back to his "Machismo" self by taunting Bute and the getting KTFO!!!! As you know I'm a PW fan!! To tell you the truth I think there is nothing PW can do to limit his problems with south-paws!!!!!!!
you are right, the status quo isnt acceptable. whether new people are needed or the current team can right the ship, i'm not really in a position to say. just to clarify and as a disclaimer before i mention anything about weight so as to not look like i'm making "excuses." the top five reasons kelly lost this fight are (in no particular order) 1. Sergio Martinez 2. Sergio 3. Martinez 4. Maravilla 5. Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez but i'm very curious to know what the story is behind his weight. **** he was still able to make weight and go 12 rounds with a very very skilled fighter who is stylistically all wrong for him and whom i clearly underestimated. but he came into camp 25lbs over his target weight and then rehydrated 18lbs after the weigh in. I would think that he can control his weight a little better pre-camp. ITS NOT WHY HE LOST!!!!! but this isnt a good habit to get in. I think he can still be a mw. however, if he doesnt control his weight pre-camp he's going to be in that ricky hatton no man's land where your natural division is hard to attain and the one above your not suited for.
hatton: you have a point cuz miranda: was getting blown out regardless of who said what pw: i disagree. there is a lot he can do. pw has the god given ability to be top p4p fighter for a long time and that's no ****. what his problems are, are very very correctable. use his height, work on developing his jab, body control, body control, body control!!!! he's so far out of position sometimes when he lets his hands go. if he works on these things i think he beats sergio soundly in a rematch. but...wlad went from being all over the map in the ring and being found and sparked out cold. he then works on what his shortcomings are and now...he's very hard to hit, about as boring as watching an ugly coat of paint dry, but upright all fight nonetheless and seeing his arm raised consistantly.
