A nutritionist was hired and monitoring his diet... He was 186 and solid coming into camp. The weight was dropping accordingly. He went to Florida to train to help take off even more (warmer weather/ more outside activities). He returned after 3 days due to inadequate training facilities and there were millions of people on spring break in the area. Spent the rest of the camp here in Youngstown and a week before the fight, the weight was exactly where it needed to be. The remaining 5lbs became the most difficult and he was still 5lbs over the night before the weigh-in.

(It is believed that this could have caused his "dead legs" later in the fight)

Like I said, they treated the extra weight as 'normal' weight, which it wasn't.

Yep. Easy to say in retrospect, but I know the local YMCA used to do muscle/fat density tests if I'm not mistaken. Weigh you dry and then dunk you in a tank of water and get another weight. If Kelly is going to stay at MW he may well want to avail himself to this type of testing. I think it will give a better idea of what is going on.

i knew bits and pieces. i gave five reasons why kelly lost earlier in the thread and they all rhyme with schmergio schmartinez...so that no one would think i'm hinting around at an excuse.

i was just genuinely curious about the rest of it and know that jsimps would know if anyone would. no harm intended.

Williams should be the one to send Pavlik into retirement.

    It wasn't the weight.

He had the exact same problems with Martinez that he had with Hopkins. Obviously Martinez is neither as big nor as strong as Hopkins. That played a big role in the dominance factor.

The main problem has already been brought up numerous times. He needs to learn how to improvise in the ring. He's just got a very ordinary amateur style. He wins because of his strength and determination. He needs to put in more now.

Sadly not even this fight has convinced Pavlik that he needs a lesson. Or at least from the quotes I've read on here.

I think people are overreacting to this loss. For me it revolves around one undeniable truth.

Sergio Martinez is one bad motha****a.

It's LOL and ROFL Hilarious to hear these Pavlik fans now talk about his NUMEROUS flaws...but prior to the Martinez fight, they told everyone and their MOMMA how he (Pavlik) was just supposed to dominate the **** out of Martinez or anyone at Middleweight. When the fact is...Pavlik is just a slow, heavy-footed, robotic/mechanical Puncher. There have been One Dimensional Punchers before (ie..Gatti) but at least they "set-up" their punches with angles, fainting, willing to exchange on the inside and able to go Body-2-head and vice-versa. Pavlik just stands there, takes punches and when the other fighter is finished with his flurry, then he "throws punches".

On his Best Day...Pavlik could NEVER be a Felix "Tito" Trinidad...NEVER!!! "Tito" had a very nice jab, could get inside a exchange with the best and could break u down to the body, then go upstairs and then LIGHTS-OUT!!! The problem with Tito occurred once he began to move up in weight. But at 147lbs...TOP-NOTCH, ELITE-LEVEL...HANDS HOWN!!!

And I just had to respond the "Whole HBO doesn't doesnt understand this and tends to force fights on fighters they shouldnt be in" ****. Question...Pavlik came into this fight at 36-1. How long was he supposed to keep fighting fighters like Miguel Espino, Gary Lockett, Jose Zertuche and Bronco McKart? You can't hide Pavlik forever. There are too many Skilled, Athletic, Fast, Boxers with excellent movement at 154lbs-168lbs. He already had 37 fights. If Pavlik were to have stepped his slow limited ass in the ring with real talent within his first 18-22 fights like Andre Ward did versus Kessler, Andre Dirrell did versus Froch and Abraham, Devon Alexander did versus Witter and Urango, Berto Did vs Collazo and Quintana...and more, WE WOULD HAVE NEVER HEARD OF KELLY PAVLIK. But according to you HBO is just supposed to let Pavlik pad his record against fighters with NO SKILL.

And to think all of you believe Pavlik would have an EASIER fight with Paul Williams is JUST ABSURD!! A fighter with NO defense, Not willing to exchange, stiff with NO movement...vs a Fast, Volume Boxer/ Puncher that throws 100plus punches per round. :-(
