What I don't understand is why the MMA fans are saying that boxing is over, MMA is the way forward, it's so exciting etc.

So, listening to this, I tune in a few times. Turns out the fans get very excited. Usually when the fighters are upright and throwing punches.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in this?

The Jack of all trades master of none is a bit of a misnomer....a lot of American MMA guys have a very strong background in amateur wrestling fighters such as as Mark Coleman, Randy Couture and Dan Henderson (were on Olympic wrestling teams freestyle for Coleman and Greco Roman for Henderson and Couture) Mark Kerr, Kevin Randleman, Josh Koshcheck were all NCCA D I wrestling champs. Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans were both Division I collegiate wrestlers. Frank Trigg got second in the U.S. Olympic trials. Matt Hughes had a strong wrestling background.

The problem with UFC is they're ALL snoozefests. What people find entertaining about watching two guys rolling around on the ground, I'll NEVER know.:-(

UFC is a league not a sport. If you look at all of the different MMA leagues there is even more "world" titles than in boxing. You got UFC, Pride FC, Elite XC, RIng of Combat and a **** load of others.

THat being said I hate to say this but you guys in this thread sound just as ignorant and childish as Joe Rogan and Dana White every time they take a stab at boxing. It takes a lot of skill and a lot of heart to compete in either sport, I don't see why the fans of one can't simply respect the other even if they don't watch it.

I personally don't really care for MMA but I do respect the men that do it.

I have a question for those who watch and understand MMA and those who saw the fight last night. I did not see the fight but i was told Forrest got a 10-8 round i belive in the second. I did see Rampage drop Forrest with an upper cut. How do they score the fights. What do you get point for? Is grappling and wrestling more important than punching? I would just like to know.

The rolling on the floor part is what will never sway me to become a bigger fan of mixed martial arts over boxing, but when both fighters are standing up and trying to kick and punch each other, while throwing throwing forearms and knees, I find that to be pretty cool (for the 25 seconds before it goes to the ground).

Dont worry. With all these people following MMA(but who never followed boxing), they will watch a good boxing match once, and then they will be...

MMA has its moment, but lets face it, boxing as the spectatular stuff. If only it was better organized(abc belts and 4 pound difference in the lower classes...)

my question for MMA is why do top fighters cannot stay long at the top and gets beaten quickly even by no-names and beginners. this is unlike in boxing where top fighters lose only to top boxers and rarely does an upset happen.
