Is it just me, or was the judging for yesterday's fights pretty universally horrible? - Judges had Green up at the time of the stoppage, who I thought pretty clearly was losing - Judah squeaking by Matthysse, who I thought pretty clearly won at least six rounds plus the knockdown - Only giving Marquez the one round where he had Lopez out on his feet, even though he landed the bigger punches in a number of other rounds - Eugenia Williams giving every round to Guerrero even though Escobedo clearly won at least two of the last three rounds Just curious if I'm alone on this one, or if other people saw it the same way...
I cant comment on the Judah and Guerrero fights, but I'm with you on the Showtime card, Marquez winning only one round was very odd , I thought it was fairly close, and I had Johnson by a point or two.
The Green And Johnson Fight had multiple close rounds Glen was aggressive early on but Alan was landing clean punches so it wasn't bad judging although i had Glen up a point and the Judah fight aswell was tactical thruout the first 8 or 9 rounds and the jab won most of the early rounds for Zab i had Zab up 1 round 114 - 113 aswell, and Lopez - Marquez fight i gave Marquez only round 4 its hard for me to give him any other round.
That's the thing - Green WASN'T landing any clean punches. Everything he threw was glancing off elbows, or half landing because Johnson was moving his head. Johnson landed several flush shots every round, but Green maybe landed three flush shots the whole fight.
All judges think Johnson is getting punched no matter what. It's like a weird magical spell that makes them see it.
Judges scoring ineffective aggression drives me insane, its like the Alexander vs Kotelnik fight.... how people score that for Devon the person throwing less and landing less is just beyond me. But yeah i had Johnson up by 1 maybe 2 rounds, i did have Matthysse up by a round and i gave Marquez 2 rounds. I wouldn't say it was horrible scoring but it was questionable.
I had Green up by like 1 at the time of the stoppage. There were a couple early rounds that were tough to score, but I thought his movement was enough. Johnson was clearly on the comeback trail tho, and probably would have won the rest of the rounds anyway. Thank God for the stoppage, puts away any questions. Johnson's fights are typically very hard to score anyway. Marquez having only 1 round is surprising, but not a complete shocker to me. TBH, I didn't bother scoring that one... I just sat back & watched. I didn't think it would go to the cards anyway. :-D I had Matthysse up by a point or even two at the end, but again I don't have a HUGE problem with a majority decision. I wouldn't call it a robbery, although I would have liked to see a draw. I think more experienced judges would probably have seen it a draw, or had Lucas up by a point or two. So, in my opinion, not horrible judging, but certainly not the best either. We've seen MUCH bigger robberies recently.
Dunno - when it's as close as it was between Green and Johnson before the stoppage, I don't have a problem with it. Personally, I had Johnson up, but there were a couple of rounds there that I guess could be considered swing rounds. So having Green up by a round or so would be acceptable in my opinon. Also - I was NOT ringside. Although it's not an argument that could be used all the time (Alexander vs. Kotelnik, what the actual ****!?), I have to accept that scoring a fight on the TV screen is vastly different than what goes on in the arena.
I didn't see Judah-Matty but I agree with you about the Marquez-Lopez & Green-Johnson fights ! I gave more than 1 round to Marquez and Johnson was evidently ahead for a sane person's score card. Johnson's obviously more accomplished but seems to be a barely luckier version of Emmanuel Burton...
Aside from Guererro vs. Escobedo scoring which was awful, everything seemed normal in terms of scores, normal not good. Too many judges will score rounds for guys when all they're doing is hitting gloves, Johnson and Marquez were getting off with clean shots, they should have got some rounds for that. As for Judah vs. Mattyhsse I found it too boring and frustrating to score.
