watching replays of david haye getting beat by 40 year old carl thompson...i have concerns for haye at heavyweight... it was early in hayes career...just 10 fights into it...but he was 24 years old...4 years ago...he was schooled enough by then... i do accept that he has improved a LOT since that and i backed him against enzo...but watching what 40 year old thompson did to him 4 years ago...i have a feeling that a couple decent shots to the temple from a fully fledged heavy...like barret...and he'll fold... if he gets to klitchsko, i see it playing out like herbie hide v riddick bowe...haye will use speed to dart round him for a couple of rounds, but fold when the big shots land on him... my other thought is that he is hyping himself up too much....i know promotion means big hype....but he could turn out to be another audley harrison if he's not careful...promising so so much, and if he's found wanting in this barret fight, the british public will ridicule him...like harrison.. then again...i could be totally wrong
thompson was a very under rated fighter though, very wily and knew all the tricks. he faced him far too early and thought he was unbeatable. i do know what you're saying, there are a few doubts in my mind about haye that i hope he'll prove wrong.
He was gassed more than anything - figured he could destroy Thompson early, but as has been mentioned before - the Cat was a very underrated boxer. He's a smart fighter - honest about his chin, but i think he'll do just fine.
A lot of people in the UK are ridiculing him already - but for different reasons to the Audster, because he never shuts up talking, and bullshitting. However, he is an excellent fighter, one to watch.
I think Haye realizes that in the land of the robots, someone who seems to be a bit human will stand out like a sore thumb. He's already earned himself a high ranking spot because of his ability to talk up a great game. This Haye ride will be pretty entertaining and I can't wait to see who he'll be fighting after Barrett.
Haye's legit....nuff said everyone has bad days, everyone goes down,...hell there've been plenty of atg's with suspect to glass chins....look at Hearns but on another note....wlad's got a glass jaw anyways, it wont take more then a few shots at best till his lights get cut off so lets say that Haye does have a glass jaw....that makes 2 fighters with glass jaws in the ring with each other, who both have knockout power.....i'd put my money on the faster more alusive fighter, which is undoubtedly David Haye....honestly, i don't hate Wlad, and i certainly like Haye but, i truly think Haye has his number
maybe it would be like herbie hide v vitali? one thing you can say about haye though is that despite a weak chin, he has explosive power and is capable of shaking anyone. he may not beat the best heavyweights but it will be entertaining while it lasts.
Firstly that fight was for thr IBO world title, it wasn't a nothing fight. Thompson was a good fighter and I really cant see Wlad walking through the bombs he was landing on Thompson, that man had an iron chin. Secondly Haye was dominating that fight up until the tko, he had won all but one round and hadnt just won them, but dominated them. The ref after the fight admitted he was close to stopping the fight. Thirdly its not like it was a brutal ko, infact the ref stopped it when Haye was on his feet, granted, he was wobbly, but he was on his feet. Id also like to point out that he is not the same fighter he was then. He used to go balls out and try and smash them to pieces without any defence, any plan b or stamina, if they walked through the shots like Thompson did, thats how Thompson took over, he was out of energy. He is a changed man, he runs wth olympic runners in Northen Cyprus, he takes his time and looks for openings now rather than going balls out. He wasn't looking too tired by round 8 of the Mormeck fight, infact Id say he got better as the fight went on. Lastly, I really think his chin isn't as bad as ppl think it is and its only gonna get better now he doesnt have to struggle to get down to weight. He has never been brutally ko'ed, only wobbled a few times, but has then got up to win the fight(exceptoon of Thompson). Also look at people like Cotto, how bad was his chin at 140? It was terrible. Yet he lasted a few rounds while in a war with Magarito. His chin can only improve as he gets upto his natural weight, I wouldnt be surprised if he has an average chin at the heavies.
Haye was totally gassed in the Thompson fight! The Cat had taken crazy amount of punishment and its a enigma how he stayed in the fight. You can never know how a fighter will react when he takes a big punch from a heavy. What we do know is that if Hayes conditioning is correct that we should'nt have to find out
According to Haye he has only been knocked down by quick cruiserweights, and that won't happen at Heavyweight because they are slow. That is his answer to that concern. Yeah, I am not sure there are any Heavyweight quicker then a 40 year old Carl Thompson, or a muscle bound, short frenchman Mormeck. They are a real standard for speed.
I agree his chin isn't as bad as some think, so it is still weak, and it was stamina more than anything that lost him the thompson fight. However... his defence is poor and he is at the mercy of right hands and doesn't have the chin to face big punching heavyweights with that huge hole in his armour.
I may be wrong but I don't worry about Povetkin being Wlad's next opponent and I'm really worried about Wlad facing Haye. The kid is fast. Not much in terms of fundamental boxing prowess, but boy is he fast.
