From all the threads and articles I have been reading, there seems to be one thing that people are constantly missing. They notice that Margo has excellent chin, heart and stamina, but miss out one of his most effective attributes: his body punching! Watch the Cotto fight. Much like Marciano used to do, Margo was hitting Cotto to the body constantly; to the body, elbows, shoulders, basically anything he can lay his punches on. While this may not look impressive, trust me if you are getting hit on the arms and shoulders as well as the body and head in a fight, you wont be able to hold your hands up anymore and will eventually get KOd. This is what Marciano used to do, and this is highly evident in the Cotto fight. Body is the way forward! :smoke
After reading this thread and then watching some of the fight, i notice it much more and emanuel steward, he mentioned it alot of times aswell are punches to the shoulders, elbow, neck, forarms, considered scoring punches?
I heard that one guy who fought Marciano had damaged blood vessels and fractured bones in his elbow after a fight.
thats one of the things why i think he would give Floyd some trouble, cause some guys focus too much on Floyds head and with the kind of defense he has theyre lucky to land one clean shot.Margo just wants to hit it doesnt matter where he just wants to keep touching you and that wears a guy down.
yeh steward was probably the only one who was mentioning it. for boxing commentators the HBO team are unbelievably **** when it comes to noticing quality work which is slightly under the radar. wen you wach how much punching to the body margo was actually doing from the very first round, it makes it a much closer fight in the first 6 rounds than many would have u to believe. Margs was doing a lot of work. As for scoring, I guess it depends on the judges, but it appears that the judges that night did give him the credit, although this may have also been because of his aggression throughout in pushing the fight, or the combination of the 2.
I agress. Although Floyds defence is the best in the game, I can just see margo walking through the punches and just smashing him to the body, arms and shoulders, which floyd uses most of the time to block with anyway
Yup. All one has to do is look at the Ibeabuchi-Byrd fight. Byrd was almost impossible to hit in his early days and Ibeabuchi clocked him. Not because he got lucky but because he hit Byrd on his arms so many times that Byrd just did not see the head shot coming. He thought Ibeabuchi was more predictable than he was. And when Byrd was fooled into believing it, he capitalized in a big way. But overall it was a beating. Despite Byrd blocking so many punches he was still worn out from all the shots he took on his arms and elbows and shoulders. It does take it's toll over time. And it took it's toll on Cotto saturday night as Margarito amped up the volume and landed anywhere he could.
margaritos body work is very nice...i noticed it all through his fight with cotto...i doubt hed even be able to find floyd however
this is why margo wud be a monster in 15 round fights, more so than wot he already is. cudnt see anyone currently at welter lasting that length wit him
If fights were 15 rounds there would be no question he would have won the Williams fight. Of course the Santos fight was stopped on a cut, but if that one had somehow extended 15 Margarito would probably have won that too.
It's just the point that taking that amount of punishment to the arms, body and elbows etc. would make it very difficult too last a long time with Margo. Marciano used to do exactly the same thing, and he used to be called one dimensional aswell. :hey
It would be interesting to see them go at it the third time around. Marg being so high on beating Cotto and Santos being high on winning another title.
