sorry in advance if there is already a thread on this. My GF got me to start doing yoga with her. she is a major gymnast and insist that yoga would be great to Incorporate into my other workouts. now i have noticed it seeming to help with my boxing and just how i feel over all during workouts and was thinking about maybe doing it once or twice a week. just wondering does anyone else do yoga and if this seems like a good idea to start doing? thanks.
Hell, if nothing else, you get to check out some pretty limber ladies in tights getting into positions most men fantasize about. What's the downside here? I mean, besides looking like a poof to your boxing buddies. Just jerking your chain a bit. My sister-in-law does yoga a few times a week and swears by it and she is usually not prone to physical stuff.
Check out: http://www.expertboxing.com/body-movement/balance-and-flexibility-underrated-boxing-skills-part-1 This guy has a whole series on things that you wouldn't have thought help, but reading the explanations makes you realise they would. They're also things he's done personally - not just read about. Having tried a few of his suggestions in sparring (and finding they work), I can imagine his advice in things I haven't tried (like yoga) would be right too.
Yoga brings flexibility in your body, Yoga helps in breathing better, Yoga increased your strength, Yoga stable autonomic nervous system balance Yoga reduce high blood pressure.... Sandyford Personal Trainer
Yes I highly recommend it. It helpEd with my recovery, flexibility, balance, breathing, slickness and calmness. Which in turn increased my speed, stamina and even my power. Floyd also just started don't before the cotto fight
I think the real question is, for those of us who don't have birds - how would you get into it? Think I'd feel a bit of a dick walking into a yoga club full of middle aged women by myself.
Never know... you might hit the jackpot and find yourself in the yoga class that all the 'yummy mummys' I keep reading about in the newspaper go to... Do one thing everyday that scares you :good
I thought the same. Walked into the class and there were 3-4 overweight dudes. Felt much better after that. Now I just do a beginners yoga thing from youtube at home.
