As well as all the other fights on the card. On the site's forum an admin posted this: "Not sure, the event officials are up in arms about something, it was an important event with Yoka so I think the Federation will act quickly (COVID premitting)". Scandal coming up?
You know, in the back of my head I had something like "what if Yoka fails a drugtest, or avoids it again?" about this event. It's probably nothing like that, but I somehow knew something was off here.
I read on twitter that it was due to a financial issue with the show itself, not sure how true that is.
Maybe they haven't paid the boxing authorities in wherever it took place? So hey withhold sanction and all the results void until they get their cheque?
Anything drug related wouldn't be completely wiped off, along with the whole card. It's probably got something to do with a commission not being present or something. A lot of Mexican fights are no decisions on Boxrec, like Berchelt's last fight, for that reason
On another note, Yoka looks like a HW version of Khan. Really fast for the sake of being fast, but not elusive and not exactly blessed with a great chin, to say the least. The "single punches only" approach he had against Duhaupas wouldn't work too well against a better opponent.
Now, it is true that no one really ever used that technique and it was indeed "true boxing" in practice. But the tournament organisers deliberately made it to be "kickboxing without kicks" to avoid things like - participants having legit boxing licenses - fights having been held under the supervision of boxing commissions - fighters required to undergo full set of brain scans, blood tests etc. (requirements in European pro boxing, but not in kickboxing, not to the same extent) In France there are rumors which claim that Duhaupas had health problems for some time. Maybe he couldn't pass all the tests and the fight doesn't validate the FFB conditions, and therefore is unofficial.
Or that Yoka is still on juice, and they wanted a format where he would not be tested. Ordinarily, I would not say that without evidence, but he is coming off a suspension for avoiding testing, so... I was just getting to like the guy, too, but it seems everything about his is manufactured...even moreso than Wilder. Won't be watching any more of his fights after two back-to-back scandals.
Yes, but Yoka (and probably also Khan) already had those flaws as an amateur, so I don't think you can blame Virgil Hunter. The thing with Virgil is that he has had one great fighter who he pretty much trained for his whole life and built from the ground. I don't know if he's the kind of guy who's good at fixing bad habbits and fundamental mistakes that some fighters have/make.
Yeah, I still don't know how I actually rate him. For me Teddy Atlas is the most overrated trainer in boxing, got famous by riding the coattrails of Cus d'Amato and Tyson when Kevin Rooney was actually the one who was a great cornerman and got Tyson to stick with gameplans even when he got a bit frustrated.
