I'll just copy and paste what I wrote to Il Duce on another thread and direct it to you guys: Do you know anything about the supposed food-poisoning allegations made about Lt. Flyweight champ Yoko Gushiken and his management? According to what I've read, many are under the belief that they would somehow manage to poison Gushiken's challengers just prior to the fight, weakening them and making for ripe pickings for their fighter. I've never put any real credence into this (the footage doesn't seem to depict his opponents being any the worse for the wear), but due to lacking resources I've never done any real in-depth research on it. I just know what I've read from those knowledgable on the lower weights/their accounts of what they'd been told by countrymen of Gushiken. No real first-hand sources. What say you? You know anything about any of that?
All I know is that I'd rather **** Yoko Gushiken than Yoko Ono, and I'm not gay. (Redd Foxx said he'd also take Dick Butkus over Shirley Chisholm.) How the hell did John Lennon ever manage to knock her up before Viagra?
I'm with you there. Plus, if you had to **** a guy, it's hard to go wrong with Gushiken and his shmexy afro.
interesting story. I know that he would sometimes suck wasabi up his nose through a straw to get himself ready
If you do not cook Blowfish properly, your stomach will disolve. Maybe Yoko ingested the poison, before his bouts with Pedro Flores. Though, strange things have happened in Japan. Not with Pedro Flores though. Stranger things have happened in Thailand and Taiwan, with Saensak Muangsurin.
It's hard to find anything concrete about this now. http://www.boxingfanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?1614-IBHOF-Article-on-Maxboxing.com did a quick search and there is brief mention of it in the posting of that Lee Groves IBHOF article. Some other interesting stuff on the thread concerning his opinions on lower-weight fighters in general. On Tokashiki's wiki page there is mention of his title win being overshadowed by a scandal involving the Kyoei gym's management, which was were he and YOko trained. No idea if that may be related. Some other random stuff an ancient boxrec post on this thread by "boxbible" http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3885 a comment at the end of this rather scathing Myung woo Yuh analysis http://www.boxingfanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?1622-My-Myung-Woo-Yuh-Assessment Nothing proper or official that i can find though.
I think I might just resurrect those threads. I've an account on Boxrec (although I hardly ever post) and I'd make one on boxingfanatics if I had any hope that the original thread starter would see my response. Sounds like too much work for such a small possibility of resolution. Still, I might just do so anyway. This is something I'd like to get to the bottom of for the benefit of everyone. What intrigues me is how sure they seem to be of their assertions. Joonie73 even went so far as to say that it "seems to have been proven". I'd have expected more easily accessible information on the topic if that were the case.
You could maybe Email Lee Groves, see what he knows about it.I don't know if he still writes for maxboxing, not a site i ever go to really, but he was one of the few that knew his stuff on there. I hope Anarci doesn't read his chang vs Finito opinions
Well, I haven't discovered much on the thread topic, but I can expand on this one. It doesn't start or stop at Muangsurin. It's an issue with a lot of Thai fighters on the whole. In both boxing and Muay Thai. A lot of what I've read revolves around the weigh-in process. If a foreign fighter comes in a pound or two below the agreed upon weight, they'll make them drink their own concoction until they get to said weight. Fighters have complained of bloat and stomach cramps afterwards, hindering their performance in the ring. The insinuation seems to be that it's more than just water they're being fed. On top of that, they're notorious for delaying matches after weigh ins, forcing the opponent to rehydrate and dehydrate all over again in a short span of time, weakening them further by the time the actual fight comes off. I've heard about these kinds of things in every combat sport where Thailand is the host. They go a lot further than simple home cooking with the judges, apparently. Might also shed some light on why their muay thai fighters are just so damn much better than anybody else. I understand they invented it, but to have only one foreign Lumpinee champ in history?
Yeah the thais are a shady bunch i cant even remember the last foreign fighter to win a decision there against the home fighter who also happens to be the champion.
