This is the one Gushiken fight i've not seen.

    Nice one.

Pedroza had a reputation for being a big puncher.Ballas and Watanabe both gave him a fair bit of respect.

Wasn't he related to Eusebio Pedroza, cousin or something?

Don't know much about Pedroza other than from the limited footage I've seen he's not quite in cousin Eusebio's league. It's interesting that (I believe) he's the only common opponent of Watanabe and Gushiken. I'm enlisting help to determine the better of Gushiken/Watanabe and it might be a little instructive to watch those two fights.

p.s. I'm at least getting a start on Kalambay-Collins tonight. Kalambay gotta be in my all-time top 15 favorites and i was keen on Collins too. Gotta get that one watched.

That he was Al. Seems a step down from the Panamanian stylists of the E.Pedroza, Laguna, Marcel class. No shame in that though.

Watanabe beats him by more or less a complete shutout and has him in trouble a few times.

He treats him with respect and uses a lot of movement throughout.Seemed to be wary of a repeat of hte Chul-ho Kim bout where he had his own version of the Vito Hagler draw; tiring/losing focus late against a steady limited opponent and letting him back into the fight somewhat.I still thought Watanabe clearly won the fight, mind you.

I'll put Watanabe vs Pedroza up in a few weeks or so, if it's not there by then.

One thing to watch out for in the collins fight that i forgot to mention when i started a thread on it, is how kalambay picks off bodywork without needing to change his arm position much or go into a shell like Floyd, in fact he often sways or leans into the shots with his upperbody or a shift of the legs, makes it almost impossible to get fully extended flush bodyshots landed in conjunction with the half guard, though his arms would have been damn sore after a number of fights i bet.Pretty unique and effective for counterpunching/jabbing purposes too.

I'd love to see Watanabe - Pedroza when you have time. I've seen about a 3 minute highlight of it.

As for Kalambay - Collins, thru 6 rounds, I have Kalambay 4-2. Seems like one of those tough fights to score though. Collins is a little craftier than my memory recalls. I like his little shift/slide to set up an onslaught starting with a left hook. Kinda Duran-esque if I dare say.

I'll be giving this and the Collins/Kalambay fight a watch tomorrow if all goes well. Dunno why I haven't gotten around to the latter yet.

I thought Ballas was robbed against Pedroza...solid fighter but not quite up to the quality of his cousin.
